The majority of a large southwest Florida church will officially leave the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on Good Friday, following a decision by the regional presbytery to allow their departure.
When Pastor Stephens was interviewed for the job, he promised the Peace River Presbytery that he would NOT attempt to split the church, but that is exactly what he did. Upon his arrival, the entire church changed for the worse becoming divisive and less Christian-like in so many respects. There was no room for disagreement or even discussion as long-time staff were fired due to "budget cuts" and agreeable or disinterested new-hires remained. This Easter Sunday morning brought joy to the Covenant flock as they peered into Pastor Stephens' former office and praised the Lord that he was gone from their midst. Covenant WILL rebuild with the help and love of God!!!

star2 - thanks for the info
... i had a feeling it was one guy who went to every topic and flagged everything; however, i dont think they shoul've banned him, i think this message board should change their flagging process. individuals shouldn't be able to flag and delete messages, the message board monitors should do have the final say. if they see one individual flagging everything than they should just ignore him.... its too bad because there were a lot of good posts that day, and i'm sure that person who got banned will just sign in with another new login name etc... oh well...

It was not 5 atheists who CP banned. It was one individual, an atheist, who went by three different names. He went on a flagging rampage on Sunday March 9.

There is One Lord, One Faith, and One Baptism! Though narrow is the gate and few who find it...if you seek Me with all your heart, you shall surely find Me. Seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened, ask and it shall be given to you. In order to see the kingdom you must be born again of the Spirit of God. I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Jesus

FullGospel You said: "You know, 500 years ago some people decided that they were going to "fix" Christianity and get back to the truth, or so they thought. 40,000 denominations (and this new one) later, we're still looking for that oh-so-elusive fix and we haven't found it yet."
That means that Calvin, Luther, Knox, Zwingli, Bucer, Melanchton and others should have stayed with the fold of Rome? You think they would have fixed the RC Church? They would not. Remember, the believers who secede from false spiritual leadership are not the schismatics. They RETURN to the truth which their leaders have forsaken. It is the false leaders (wolves) who cause schism. That is how I see the actions of the Presbyterians who left the PC (USA). I praise God for their faithfulness!

Do not forget why they parted ways.
1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; - 2Thessalonians 2:3.

The more divided we are, the greater chance the "real" enemy has to keep souls away from the Kingdom.
God compares the marriage of a man and woman to the marriage of Christ with the Body (The Bride). Man is losing the seriousness of the earthly marriage commitment. This is also being reflected in the Spiritual marriage as well.

You know in the movie "Stigmata" which was based on the unauthorized Infant Gospel of Thomas Jesus in that gospel is quoted as saying, "Lift a rock you will find me there, split a piece of wood, there will you find me also".... True religion is to serve the needs of the widows and orphans, to visit the imprisoned, to feed and give drink to those who thirst and hunger, to clothe the naked.
No one lights a candle to be put under a bushel... (or closed off by 4 walls of a church)...
I am now 46. The older I get, the less attracted I am to formal worship, although I fully love my church family and worshipping together.....
The Presbyterian Church USA has gone the way of other churches... apostacy of the false church(es) was foretold... and here we are.

thanks FullGospel, that was a very 'unifying' message, makes me want to break away and start my own message board denomination.
yeah sure, the Bible believing Christians should've just stayed with the Liberal-bent Organization for the sake of 'unity'.... what a bunch of rubbish.
if your church organization starts veering from Biblical truth, than its time to leave... it's hard to preach against sin when man doesnt see anything as sin anymore, we have become to be just a country club... a bunch of lettered-sweater preppies saying everythings ok as long as we dont hurt anyone.... broad is the way that leads to..., well, you know the rest, if you read the Bible.

What a shame. You know, 500 years ago some people decided that they were going to "fix" Christianity and get back to the truth, or so they thought. 40,000 denominations (and this new one) later, we're still looking for that oh-so-elusive fix and we haven't found it yet.
Maybe the answer after all was to stay put and fix the church we were in instead of founding 40,001 new ones. Let's not forget that Jesus prayed that we be one, not 40,001.
