Genesis and the Big Bang Revisited
The subject of the creation of the universe and everything that implies is divided into two camps, the scientific and the religious. Most Christians believe the book of Genesis describes how God created the universe, not in allegorical terms, but is specific in the details provided. Most scientists see it as simply a matter of science and would rather religion stay out of the issue. How about both camps recognizing that both groups are seeking the same thing, THE TRUTH.
I realized something while watching a documentary on the Big Bang and the Creation of the universe, that struck a neuron about the beginning according to God.
Most cosmologists and theoretical physicists now accept that the Big Bang started from a singularity. What is a "Singularity"? When a Black Hole collapses it creates an object in space in which all matter, space and time is compressed into a single 'point', a geometric point which has no size, only a place. What they are saying is that in the beginning all the matter, energy, light, and space/time of the universe was inside a huge Black Hole that somehow exploded. They can provide no explanation as to why it exploded because Black Holes are not supposed to do that.
One of the properties of a Black Hole is that the gravity contained in the singularity is so great that it creates a sphere around it called an 'event horizon'. Once an object fall beyond the event horizon it is trapped forever and can not overcome the gravity of the singularity. Gravity at that point is so great that even light falling into this region cannot escape. That is why it is called a "Black Hole". Black holes are invisible because they give off no light and emit no radiation of any kind from inside the event horizon.
Genesis chapter one, verse one says, "In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth". And the Earth was without form and void: and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. AND GOD SAID, LET THERE BE LIGHT: AND THERE WAS LIGHT.
Lets examine those passages carefully from a scientific standpoint for a change. The center of a Black Hole has no form and is void of any information or organization. "And darkness was upon the face of the deep". If a Black Hole is anything it is "dark" and "deep". Black Hole = Dark and Deep. "And the Spirit of God moved upon the "face" of the waters, could be describing Gods spirit changing the 'event horizon' for what's coming next. "And God said, LET THERE BE LIGHT".
For a Black Hole to release the energy, mass, and LIGHT trapped inside its singularity would take a supernatural event. An object that previously had not even permitted light to escape from it, now released all the light, energy, mass, and space/time that was contained in its center. The first thing that would have been released would have been the LIGHT.
God then divided the light from the darkness. Everything that had been trapped inside the singularity was released and all of the universe was now free and separated from the dark prison it had been trapped inside.
After this event the stars, planets, and everything else in the universe formed in time and took on the form we now see when we look up at night.
The key point of this mental exercise is the realization that the ancient scribes that critics say wrote the book of Genesis, had no knowledge of science as we know it. With that thought in mind, what reason would they have for including the passage about light if they were the authors of this 'story'. The entire narrative describes the dissolution of a Black Hole and its singularity so well that it suggests that it was written by someone much more knowledgeable and intelligent than the ancient Hebrew scribes.
Any scientist worth his salt today would agree that if a Black Hole were to dissolve, the first thing that would be evidence of that event would be a burst of light followed by an explosion of energy and matter.
All of this suggests to me that there is more information in the book of Genesis than we have yet interpreted, and hopefully, in time we will progressively learn more of God's mysteries as we become more knowledgeable ourselves.
