The Offering We May Resist
By Ed Cyzewski
In Romans 12 Paul pleads with his audience of Jews and Gentiles to offer themselves to God as holy, living sacrifices. Up to this point in the epistle much has been said about faith, about God's merciful salvation, and the new resurrection life found in Christ. However, for those who desire to live in the freedom of Christ, there is the necessary giving up of self that must follow.
Avoiding a Reckless Leap of Faith
By Ed Cyzewski
In midst of moving and selling our house, I've been facing the nature of living by faith and what it's supposed to look like. While I desire to obey God's lead, I also don't want to take reckless steps under the false assumption that God is leading me into them.
Seeking First God's Kingdom: A Faith That Declutters
By Ed Cyzewski
It's never all that comfortable to live by faith, putting service of God's Kingdom ahead of accumulating wealth. I'm not sure how well we're doing at it, but we're giving it a go. I've been asking the Lord lately about what it means to seek first the Kingdom of God.
Sharing the Faith as Faith
By Ed Cyzewski
When it comes to sharing our faith with others, I think it's easy for Christians to forget that it is a "faith" we are sharing. On the April 12th, 2009 episode of the radio show This American Life, the story in the show's second act follows a woman's struggles with God and the hope she found in a coach at a Christian high school.
The Most Important Prayer Request that God Never Granted
By Ed Cyzewski
Jesus knew he would be lifted up for the salvation of all people. He spoke of rising from the dead, even if he first passed through terrible suffering. Nevertheless, he still asked God the Father if there may be another way forward, if he could let the coming terrible hours pass.
Faith: The Moment of Surrender
By Ed Cyzewski
My Mom and grandmother always made sure I had a fantastic lunch every day in elementary school. Roast beef, turkey, peanut butter and jelly, and even leftover meatloaf were all regulars in my lunch bag. Sometimes a friend at my table forgot his lunch and if his family didn't drop it off, our teachers would cajole us to share with him.
Tilling, Sowing, and Fertilizing Scripture
By Ed Cyzewski
The fields in my southern Vermont valley are still damp from the March snow melt. Streams running down the sides of mountains remain swollen, and the Battenkill River licks over its banks as it rushes toward New York state.
About this blog
Jesus talked about no faith, little faith, faith, growing faith, more faith, much faith, which kind do you have right now?
