The Offering We May Resist

In Romans 12 Paul pleads with his audience of Jews and Gentiles to offer themselves to God as holy, living sacrifices. Up to this point in the epistle much has been said about faith, about God's merciful salvation, and the new resurrection life found in Christ. However, for those who desire to live in the freedom of Christ, there is the necessary giving up of self that must follow.

Roast beef, turkey, peanut butter and jelly, and even leftover meatloaf were all regulars in my lunch bag. Sometimes a friend at my table forgot his lunch and if his family didn't drop it off, our teachers would cajole us to share with him.

Tilling, Sowing, and Fertilizing Scripture

The fields in my southern Vermont valley are still damp from the March snow melt. Streams running down the sides of mountains remain swollen, and the Battenkill River licks over its banks as it rushes toward New York state.
