In the desert outside Niland, Calif. stands a hillside draped in color and words. The centerpiece of the art installation is a cross that sits atop the message "GOD IS LOVE." Under that is a heart with the instruction:
SAY JESUS I'M A SINNER PLEASE COME UPON MY BODY, AND INTO MY HEART
This landmark is appropriately called "Salvation Mountain," and it was the sole project of artist Leonard Knight for three decades. Ben Stoddard and David Ehrenreich profiled the enigmatic folk artist in this short film. Knight died in February.
