Gibbons Family,
There are far more Christian educators than you probably think. In my building alone over half of us have a relationship with Jesus Christ. For many of us public schools have become our mission field. While we can't openly preach Christ in our classrooms we don't hide our faith. We are the light on the hilltop standing in the gap against the evil inundates the children of today. I am God has called me, teaching in a public school.

For God So Loved the World. John 3:16 didn't say for God so loved Israel, believers, his chosen ones or anything else. The scripture said God loved the world. When I see "Christians" pray for the death of the President or hold up signs saying that Marilyn Manson will go to Hell at his concerts are as far off of God's love as we can get. God loves everyone regards of what we have done or who we are. While I am in total disagreement with the President and I didn't vote for nor will I ever vote for him, what he needs right now are my prayers.

This will have little too no impact on the Pepsi Company at all. I often think that we as Christians spend too much time boycotting and protesting and not enough time praying and living the life that Jesus called us to live. It is the big reason we are losing the culture war. Our behavior just stinks like hypocracy.

The drivel the PBS airs is so that psuedo-intellectuals can feel like they are getting culture without having to leave their living rooms. Most of it is the quality of a public access TV. Time to stop giving our tax dollars to it and if those who think it so fantastic want to keep it on the air then let them pony up with their own checkbooks.

DP,
You are correct the Canucks inaugral season was in 1971. But I started using the 1944 thing after two of my favorite Canucks when I started to have to come up with unique user names. The the numbers are for two Canuck players I have met. Really nice guys and took 5 minutes out of their busy lives to talk to a hockey mark like me.
19=Markus Naslund (Team Captain until he left for NY this year)
44= Todd Bertuzzi (Yup I know what he did, but I still think he is genuinely one of the nicest professional athletes I have ever met)

This conversation is so cyclical it could make a person's head spin. But this entire conversation comes down to one simple thing. Is the Word of God divinely inspired and is its God's message to His people? If the answer is Yes than this entire subject really isn't open for debate. Never once is the topic of pornography broached at all in the Bible, but that it is a sexual sin is clear. The same would hold true for sexual relationships outside of marriage, homosexuality, bisexuality, orgies, and the list goes on.
If you don't believe that the bible is God's spoken word to His people then what is the foundation of your "faith"? The Bible isn't like Burger King. I can't have it my way. Either I have to believe that it is all true or that not a single thing in it is true. As for "bible scholars", nearly every major university in the US has a Religions program. But because I have a PhD in knowing about the bible, does not mean I "know" the bible or the God written about in it. As a reformed Catholic I know this to be true. I knew a lot about Jesus growing up, but I didn't know Jesus until someone introduced to the God who forgives sin and wants to spend eternity with me.
As for my Christian brothers and sisters. Please refrain from name calling. The "turn or you'll burn" method of witnessing is not very effective in getting people to see God's love and to get them to turn from their sinful lives. I for one know this from experience.

Whether you believe in the Bible story of the creation of the planet or you believe that Earth is a result of a cosmic accident and we evolved from pond ooze one simple truth doesn't change. Homosexuality does not result in any form of procreation.
It matters not whether you have any religious belief or not the entire practice goes against the nature of simple biology. All that being said this is more than likely a losing battle for Christians. This is just one of many things that will have to happen to ensure the return of Christ. I personally think it is best to let the gay community be their own voice on the issue. Just the response to certain court decisions and elections makes them their own worst enemy. When you cause a major freeway in LA to come to a standstill you are not helping your own cause.

I believe that Jesus wants us to conserve and steward our Earth because it is the planet he made for us. But for Christian groups to believe in this whole global warming nonsense takes even more faith than it does to believe in Jesus. There time would be better served spreading the gospel or actively making a difference by getting involved with clean water projects in 3rd world countries as opposed to giving speeches at the UN.

As a Southern Californian who has driven past this cross numerous times on my travels to Nevada, it is in the middle of nowhere. There is nothing around it. I am sure that the offended person didn't want to see a Christian symbol on their way to an alcohol fueled weekend of strippers, one night stands, and gambling.

Just look at polls and how few Christians read their bible on a daily basis. Anyone who has spent quality time in the word would realize how far off base the guy is with his claims. Shoot, forget off base he isn't even in the same state as the ballpark. Christians have become complacent in daily devotions of any type. No longer can the excuse be used that the text is too difficult. The bible has been printed so that anyone with a 6th grade reading level can comprehend it. Is it any wonder why Christians are losing the culture war? This is a prime example of someone claiming faith in Christ and walking in a manner completely opposite of that faith.

We live in a Burger King world and unfortunately "Christians" have embraced this viewpoint of church. They want to have church "their way". No attendance is required, you don't have to serve in any of the churches ministries, praying and reading your bible aren't needed, and you can just forget about tithing all together. That is why 85% of the people living in this country believe that they are Christians. But this title is in name only, because their deeds are little different than those who have no religious beliefs whatsoever. The bible warns of apostacy in the end times. I believe those times are upon us. The seeker friendly church is on the rise to respond to those wanting a different worship experience. You walk into those buildings and Jesus is presented in a gospel light format. The problem of sin is never presented. So people leave building with fuzzy bunny Jesus or ATM Jesus instead of stretched or challenged to change the way they are living. Everyone leaves feeling like Jesus is a bar buddy and the drinks are on him. Left to ride blissfully off into the sunset to continue the sins they have perfected. But the important part about God being holy and perfect and a hater of our sin is never talked about. The $64,000 question is, "are they really saved if they never acknowledge their sin?" Those of us who continue to attend those boring, old regular church meetings know the answer.

Sorry I did not mean to flag your comment a mishit of the mouse. My apologies. So I will reiterate what you said. Cheisa felt that it was a scam that either Liberty University or Americans United were tax exempt. Since both organizations seem to be constantly involved in politicing of some form or another for their causes.

The cost of illegal immigration has such a profound impact on my field of employment. As a teacher in the state of California, we are seeing vast amounts of resources going to teaching of English as a second language. By resources I don't just mean money, but educational time. In the 6 hour day we current have 1 hour of that time has to be spent on developing English language skills while the rest of the class is given independent work. It should come as no surprise that this approach to education is having devastating effects on student progress. I for one am waiting for the first family to sue the state when they realize that a certain group of students received special treatment when their child needed the help just as bad, but they were not allowed to receive the help.

There is nothing that Jesus said referring to attending a church building. But Paul warns against forsaking the assembly. C. S. Lewis puts it best in a story he wrote. There was a man that wasn't attending church regularly so he went to talk to the man about his lack of attendance. And much like a comment below the man said that Jesus never said you had to attend church. As a graphic illustration Lewis had the man light a candle and opened the window. Being a stormy night the candle was blown out. He then went and started a fire and opened the window. The wind actually stoked the fire and made it bigger. The object lesson is that when we are on our own in the Christian life the first storm that comes into our lives tends to snub out our light. But when we are in a group we have support and that storm just makes us stronger. Having lived both of these lives. I know that I strive to be more like Jesus when I am surrounded by his people at church. And when I am in the world and not going to service I look a lot like non-believers. This is not everyone, but just my experience.

This poll is a prime example of knowing about Jesus and "knowing" Jesus are two different things.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
