A good article. There are two points that I think we could expand on.
First, you mention 'giving up' things...without ever mentioning sacrfice. Sacrifice sounds unpleasant to some - but really it's just a choice. It's giving up something you want for somethings else you want even more. It's giving up the man on first so the man on the 3rd can score. It's sacrifcing short term desires for long term spiritual peace.
The 2nd point is that detachment does not require us to impoverish ourselves. We don't have to give things away - we have to give up desiring them. We need to let our desrie be about Jesus - about serving God by bring forgiveness and charity to those in need. That where we find joy - the same place Jesus found it - in service to others.
