  • Republicans Must Step Up to the Plate on 3 Key Issues

I think it's insane that a supposed Christian writer is coming out against extending health care to our less fortunate neighbors and against regulation to protect our planet from the excesses of industry that have already ruined our water, air and land. He's also angry that corporate monopolies won't have the right to steer the activities of their competitors and smaller players in the broadband ...more

  • Pope Focuses on Christian Persecution for 2011 World Day of Prayer

John Paul II came from a country oppressed by the Nazis, then the Communists, so he understood the urgency. That extra attention is being brought to the issue by this high level meeting on a symbolic date doesn't diminish the work being done constantly and consistently by the Church to address persecution of Christians worldwide. It's only one more effort in an ongoing battle for religious freedom that the Church has been waging for decades.less

  • Poll: Religion's Influence Waning in America

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer because of conservative, "free market" ideas. Since Reagan we've seen the erosion of tax benefits for the middle class. We've seen the erosion of union membership, the drivers behind post war prosperity that made the middle class what it was. We've seen obscene greed rewarded at the corporate level while health benefits, pensions, profit sharing, etc...more

We've seen obscene greed rewarded at the corporate level while health benefits, pensions, profit sharing, etc., for employees have vanished. Voters need to analyze just what they're voting for when they pull the lever for conservatives. They say they're preo-family, but only if that family is wealthy, it seems.less

  • Poll: Religion's Influence Waning in America

I suggest you look up the definition of religion before you condemn it. You'll find the word applies to anyone with a set of beliefs concerning a diety. I don't know what you're getting at, but maybe if you understood the terms you're using, it would help make your post clearer.

  • Is It OK to Use Secular Media to Teach Christian Principles?

I don't think something like Harry Potter is "going backwards." It has s tory line that is, basically, good versus evil, where good triumphs in the end. That's a good lesson and you shouldn't be a fraid of being "corrupted" by sorcery, unless your faith is that weak.

  • Christian Leaders Say Green Movement is False Religion

Too many "religious" leaders are confusing their faith with an extreme right wing political agenda that has no real relation to faith. That's why the religious right loses more and more credibility every day. People can see through their religious rationalizations and see the ugly politics underneath.

  • Atheist Christmas Guide Reveals Celebration Divide Among Non-Believers

Christmas is a celebration of the message of peace and love, good will toward your fellow man. Everyone can embrace those ideals, regardless of their religious affiliation or lack thereof. It's good for all to celebrate Christmas and the idea that we should treat each other with love, compassion, charity and respect.

Religious bigotry has no place and if you are trying to follow Christian teaching on how to live your life in a loving, giving way, you're on the right path. If you want to throw in a few statues or hymns or rituals, it's all for the greater glory of God isn't it? Who are we to judge, especially using only one, highly interpretable source, the Bible, for the rules. Some need to lighten up, look at the big picture and not get hung up on what they see as the letter of the law in the Word. Usually, they're wrong because there are as many interpretations as there are readers. The fundamentalist bandwagon is no place to be for thinking, compassionate Christians. Peace.less

  • Watchdog: Media Mum on Jesus in Christmas Coverage

CMI's Erin Brown commented, "The lack of focus upon the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, is a sad commentary on pop culture." Duh. The survey was about NEWS, not pop culture. The news covers events and stories surrounding Christmas, not the celebration day itself. If oyu want a true picture of how Christmas is represented, check popular programming, not news.

  • NJ Pro-Life Group Battles State Coverage of Family Planning Servies

No more than I want the government meddling in my health care do I want moral meddlers in my hair. The right decries welfare recipients having large families, but wince at Planned Parenthood helping them prevent them. Hypocritical, I think. Planned Parenthood is about more than abortion, Think about it.
