The catholic church needs to change a LOT of things--
Subordination of women. Still, still does not allow women to be ordained.
Birth control. The church teaches that ANY type of contraception is morally wrong. So keeping a fertility chart and having sex on "safe" days is also wrong.
Condoms. In the 80's the pope was spreadin' the word in Africa that the use of condoms to prevent AIDS was wrong. The current pope has regressed and says that the use of condoms can increase the risk of HIV.
Anti semitism: The pope remained silent during the Holocaust.
Pedophilia. Instead of getting help for the priests who preyed on young children, the church simply sent them to another parish.
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
At least the catholic church doesn't teach its members to go door to door and peddle their religion.
I've often been surprised by some of the terminology used in many of the articles here.
For example, from what I've read, "pro family" is code for "anti gay". Many gays have been raising families for hundreds of years. They must be "con family".
I have some suggestions for other groups mentioned here:
Concerned-about homos taking our men-Women of America.
Iowa straight parents Policy Center (ISPPC) and
National Organization for 'straights only" Marriage.
Might as well call them what they really are. I think one of the holy books says to do that.
Just a thought.

Someone needs to inform Tamara Scott that the Iowa Supreme Court has already done its job to protect the institution of marriage...everyone now has equal protection under the law to marry the person they love. She also needs to get her facts right. The Supreme Court did not create a law, on the other hand, all 7 justices ruled the same sex marriage ban to be unconstitutional, which is quite a different thing altogether.
Ms. Scott can rant all she wants, but she just appears to be selling an outright misstatement of facts.

As long it is a private school that does not receive state funding, it is allowed to discriminate. These girls showed bravery.
Not one single state requires a fertility test for marriage.
Not one single state requires couples to state intent to have children.
This excuse is just an empty excuse for denying people to marry.
Homosexuality is a natural natural sexual orientation.
It is not sinful.

If God is everywhere, then he would be in everyone's bedroom too. HOWEVER, that's not the point. It is abundantly clear that the state cannot dictate what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom...or living room, den, kitchen, garage, bonus room, etc. The possibilities for sin are limitless!

The US Supreme Court has ruled that oral sex, as well as anal sex, is legal between same sex consenting adults. It unequivocally rules that the State has no place in the bedroom of consenting adults, gay or straight.
Marriage is not a right just like having children is not a right, they are both gifts from God.
IA, VT, CT and MA all offer the same right to civil marriage equally to all adult citizens. Call it a right, call it a privilege. Either way the states legislate it. Producing children is a biological function. (Some people must think that barren or sterile people missed out on that "gift".)
Driving a car is also a right that the states regulate. I'm wondering if God gave Adam and Eve that gift or if he waited until cars were invented.
Preaching to others and condemning them to hell for who they are might be a right of free speech, but it's just plain NOT right.
For the greater good of society...
For the pro family groups...
For moral issues of fairness...
For the protection of marriage...
For tradition of equal civil rights...
Iowa finally has equal freedom for all its citizens to equal civil marriage.

I wish CP would be more accurate in its reporting. For example, when referring to "pro family" groups, it should single out how many pro family gays and how many pro family heteros are in the group.
CP apparently did not make it clear to Tamara Scott that the Iowa legislature just finished protecting marriage by assuring that all citizens have the same equal right to a civil marriage.
I am so tired of these "I am better than you types" spewing their rhetoric, misinformation, innuendo, as well as their mean spirited threats against other humans deserving of the same rights.
"Traditional marriage" has NOT been constant throughout history. It's just a way to say "I'm against marriage euality."
A majority of citizens who enjoy a right -civil marriage- should not be able to vote away the same right from a minority of citizens.
Gays and lesbians have been part of the "fabric of society" for as long as societies have existed.
Many gays and lesbians are just as pro family as many heteros. Implying otherwise is deceitful.
The civil marriage laws in VT, IA, CT, MA are based on morality and fairness. The same rules apply to everyone applying for a marriage license. As God.

"If there was ever any doubt about the depth of genuine hatred toward Gay Americans, this commercial from the National Organization for Marriage eliminates that doubt once and for all."
AND THE SCARY THING IS THAT THEY BLATANTLY PROCLAIM THEIR INTENTION TO SPREAD THEIR HATRED TO ALL 50 STATES.

"The NOM has been exposed everywhere are a fraud. Their new commercial was made up of actors reading scripts at their auditions and the tapes are all over the internet. Too funny. Even Time Magazine has exposed them. I'm sure they'll find a few half wits willing to write them a check but their campaign is the laughing stock of the entire country now."

A young man I know, (18), told me of his mother and her girlfriend, and how disgusted he was whenever they kissed.
And the point is??????????????????
A lot of teenagers are uncomfortable seeing their same sex parents kiss and knowing they have sexual relations.
As for the comment "If a 13-year-old can figure it out...", yeah, they're figuring out the deep questions in life, like why gay marriage is good
FYI- There are many Middle School gay straight alliances. And, 13 yr olds and younger are figuring out that they have gay and straight friends, as well as friends with gay parents. And, they've heard of same sex marriage.

Every state has its own marriage laws. I don't know what happens though when some man moves over from Saudi Arabia with four wives. My guess is the state civil law prevails.

When I told my 13 yr old daughter that one reason some people are against same sex marriage, is that they say it will destroy the institution of marriage. She said she thought same sex marriage would strengthen the institution of marriage because there will be more marriages overall.

These comments do not sound like the come from true Christians. Please don't stoop to this level.
He still has only four. And if you call two sodomites living together a marriage, you still have sin. Marriage is defined by God, not man.
I'll bet lots of gay students in Vermont are really bummed out over this. . . Now they'll be expected to wait until marriage before having sex, just like everybody else.
The Vermont legislature legalized gay marriage by overriding Republican Gov. Jim Douglas.
Christian legislators were also among those who voted to end marriage discrimination in VT. Civil marriage equality for all is a civil right, and these legislators should be commended for putting their religious beliefs aside and voting for equality for all.
