PG&E is a privately owned company. It is a subsidiary of PG&E Corporaion, publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. It is not spending anyone else's money; it is spending its own money. When you buy groceries, does the money you give Safeway remain your money? No. When you buy gas or electricity, you are buying a commodity. The money then belongs to the company. The $250,000 does not increase the rates you charge; it comes out of shareholder profits. PG&E has every right to chose how to spend its money, and the right to chose to spend its money to protect the constitutional rights of its employees.
