This article is completely off-base. There was no "Intelligent Design" intro, there was 50 pages of partially-plagiarized smears against Charles Darwin liberally smattered with crusty old ad hominems about Darwinism being the reason for Naziism, racism, and oh, I don't know, lets say AIDS.

Look at all that money. This definitely is what Jesus was talking about when he said to give away everything you own.

Boy, that's almost an appreciable fraction of how many people left the Southern Baptist Convention last year.

The "religion of peace" strikes again. I hope that cultural relativists just well with pride when they protect cultures like this from the evils of Western ethnocentric imperialist ideas like gender equality.
There should be police around, just to make sure he doesn't try to give anyone who shows up a "backrub."

Flagged as inappropriate. show Boy, I hope y'all are proud of yourselves. Your children must really swell with pride when you tell them about how furiously you worked to deprive your neighbors of their rights. I hope that history treats you as kindly as it treats your ancestors who fought just as hard against interracial marriage. hide

Yup, this is definitely what Jesus meant when he said that the eager follower should abandon all of his worldly possessions to the poor.

I said it before, and got flagged for it, so I'll say it again: Mainers stand up for their neighbors, even the gay ones. Jesus told us to love our neighbors, not to conditionally love them depending on who they prefer to love.

Why is it that "faith-based" can so often be seamlessly replaced with "GOP party-line voting?"

Flagged as inappropriate. show Oh, and the last sentence of this article is a lie. Polling data suggests that the anti-gay out-of-state/Catholic lobby is losing by a long shot. hide

I think that the people of Maine have had enough bullying from outside groups and the Catholic Church. As a Mainer who actually lives, pays taxes, and votes in Maine, I can tell you that most real Mainers think that the New Jersey-based National Organization for Marriage should go stick its nose in somebody else's business.
Mainers stand up for their neighbors, even the gay ones.
Too bad the paranoid Tim LaHaye-types won't ever let them cooperate with the international UN task forces dedicated to eliminating these evils.
This article has nothing to do with Christianity. Please, Colson, stop giving us more evidence that the Christian media is just a publicity arm of the Republican Party.

Flagged as inappropriate. show Ugh, watching these stone-age thugs trying to jam their fables into the modern world is becoming almost too painful to watch. The world needs better science and technology to make previous science and technology compatible with what we today know to be the dangers of pollution. Notice that the entire problem and solution has to do with science and technology, not the venerable egghead Rowan Williams' story about a boat and a flood. hide

If only the religious right were sufficiently attached to reality to let facts, rather than GOP party loyalty, determine their support for responsible sex education and distribution of contraception.

The whole notion of public debates is completely opposed to the scientific method. Public debates are about rhetorical flair, bravado, and appealing to the hearts more than the minds of your audience. Science is about eliminating all biases stemming from personal involvement, be it emotional or otherwise, through blinding procedures and the scientific method. Science does things by careful scrutiny and the play of data in refereed journals, public debates are popularity contests.
They don't do public debates about physics or mathematics. They don't do public debates about chemistry. They do science. Before you go accusing Professor Dawkins of cowardice, make sure you have a very clear idea of what you think it is that public debates are actually supposed to accomplish.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
