  • To Leak or Not to Leak

This Watergate felon was just as adamant about the government's right to keep secrets when he was conspiring with Nixon to undermine American democracy. This treasonous criminal's advice means nothing to me.

Dear Watergate felon, have you read the ruling? The court says absolutely nothing whatsoever about the legality of any religious opinion or statement, so your whining about Christians losing the right to hate homosexuals is all deceptive grandstanding (though from a man of your legendary criminal background, this is unsurprising). Read the opinion. What Walker found was that absolutely zero actual facts supported the ban on gay marriage, literally 100% of the rhetoric used against gay marriage was found to be factually incorrect, that the state has identifiable economic interests in gay marriage, that the state has no right to deny consenting adults access to the civil contract known as marriage, and that the state has no interest in reducing homosexuality in California.

Perhaps the most striking thing about the case is the testimony of the "Christians" who wanted the state to be allowed to decide who gets married and who doesn't. None of the usual rhetoric of the "Christian" Right even showed up. You see, in public, the "Christians" talk to each other like children because they all agree with each other and with the Republicans anyway. But in court, where you have to actually use your brain and act like a grownup, garbage like "traditional marriage" gets you laughed out of court- which is exactly what happened in this case.

I will apologize for this comment, retract it, eat my own pants, and give a billion dollars to the Manhattan Declaration project if Mr. Colson can identify a single right that he has as a Christian before this decision that he will lose if this ruling is sustained.less

  • Online Audience for Hitchens vs. Dembski Debate Continues to Grow

I watched the debate and all I can say is: poor Dembski. The guy got totally clobbered; he was a stuttering mess by the end. He seemed to spend most of the debate whining about his academic career going "down the toilet" (ie, to the Discovery Institute) while Hitchens walked all over him. Is this really the best that the creationists can do?

  • NJ Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Advances Amid Concerns

Wow, only the fallen "Christianity" of America could be so grossly amoral as to be against anti-bullying legislation like this. The Republican Party, which is the taskmaster of this fallen church, has been having its minions spin this as some kind of attack on free speech, as if schoolchildren aren't allowed to express negative opinions about homosexuality any more. The bill basically requires schools to uphold pre-existing policies against taunting in a vicious manner that makes the school into an unsafe learning environment. The "Christians" who oppose this bill, essentially, are in favor of schools being unsafe. I say it plainly: these "Christians" have the blood of children on their hands.less

  • Muslim Group Sues Okla. Over Sharia Ban

This is pure posturing. No judge would ever consult sharia law as controlling or persuasive authority in the United States. This is a joke designed to show how much people from Oklahoma hate brown people, pure and simple. Remember when Christians used to be the oppressed? Now they can't get enough of quieting the voices of others- gays, Muslims, etc.

You Republicans are quite big into personal autonomy where guns (see Micah 4:3 for God's thoughts on weapons) and money (see John 2:15 for God's thoughts on money) are involved, but when it comes to a woman's right to the integrity of her own body, you are opposed. When drug dealers who don't check IDs have a monopoly on the market, rather than corporations that can regulate it at least as well as they regulate alcohol and tobacco- imperfectly, but way better than a speakeasy ever could!less

That is dangerous, radical environmentalism, and coming from you, I worry that some people will take it seriously. Also, did anybody else notice that they weren't using their usual propaganda in the courtroom? When they're in public, they really let their hair down and rant and rail about God's condemnation of homosexuality. But when they're in court and they have to act like grown-ups, they're meek and ineffectual. Why? Because grown-ups know that their case is awful.
