I homeschooled both of my sons ages 12 and 10 for two years and this year they took a placement test for an online charter school and my 12 yr old placed in 8th grade with 9th level language arts while my 10 yr old was placed in 6th grade. Parental involvement does have its benefits!

Jesus, we pray for the Christians in Myanmar and other countries where they suffer persecution. I ask you to please strengthen them during these difficult times. Please touch the hearts of their persecutors so that they will not be harsh on them.
Father, give the rest of us an urgency to intercede for those who need for us to stand by them despite the geographical separation. Make us one in spirit with them so that we can pray for them.
    Amen.

I think one of the saddest effects that the media has had on Christians is the loss of compassion for human souls. How can we feel the burden to help widows, orphans, the poor and those who don't have a relationship with the Savior when we are constantly "entertained" by movies, songs and TV shows that dehumanize others.

It's sad that we dare to label as it entertainment and we even pay for two hours of films where human beings are being tortured, violated, dehumanized and murdered. We even recommend it to others as a "must see". No wonder we no longer feel compassion for others and we don't feel sadness when people suffer across the globe.
We need to get back to seeing people as God's creation made into His own image...human souls are extremely valuable!

I can honestly say that I vote against abortion on behalf of those who don't have a voice and cannot ask for an opportunity to live. Who could be more defenseless that the babies whose lives are ripped away before they can make a choice of their own?

I come from a pacifist country and I do not like wars, but those who join the armed forces in this country do it by their own choice. Aborted babies don't have a say so when it comes to their future, therefore someone has to speak on their behalf.

When will we stop looking at ourselves like white Christian, black Christian or hispanic Christian? Men look at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart (I Sam 13). God is not into race, but into hearts. He wants to see hearts that seek Him first. We need to start seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness instead of trying to prove races are equal (in the eyes of God we are all equal...as it should be for us Christians).

    wbmoore,

Your'e welcome! When I look at how wonderful of a human being my mother is (by the way, many people agree with me) I often wonder about all those lives that have been cut way too short. Was the person who was to find the cure to cancer one of them? was the next great economist among them? how about the next Billy Graham?
    How many lives wasted!

I carried two, Steve and one of them came at what we thought was the worst time, yet I look at him now and he's such a joy to have.

Yes, I do believe that women have a choice when they find themselves pregnant and they don't want to be- either become a mom or give someone else that opportunity, but don't take a life to exercise your freedom of choice. Women who choose to end a baby's life violate and take away that baby's rights.

My grandmother had 9 children and when she became pregnant with number 10, she tried to abort that baby more than once. That baby came into this world, it was my mother. A wonderful woman who would give you the shirt off her back, a woman who feeds the hungry and clothes the poor. That is the type of baby my grandma was "forced" to keep.

The regular pill a woman takes on a daily basis causes her not to ovulate, so no eggs are produced and no conception takes place. What you were referring to is the methods such as the contraceptive that comes in the shape of a T (sorry, I cannot recall the name at this time).

Steve...contraceptives such as the pill prevent eggs from being fertilized, thus they prevent conception, therefore they are not abortive measures. The pill called day after falls into a different category.

When we try to justify abortion in some situations we are basically saying that one's life may not be as meaningful if the individual was conceived under certain circumstances. Circumstances then determine sanctity of life according to such statements.

Life, no matter how it began it's precious.

Our choices are hard indeed. Adultery on one hand and abortion on the other hand. No doubt both are sins and both provide a bad example to young people, but what we don't know is whether John Mc Cain has repented and asked God and his family for forgiveness.

If he has done so we cannot hold it over his head any longer as God has forgiven him. I also see a difference in the extent of the evil they both have participated in directly or indirectly. Mc Cain's was a choice that affected his family directly; hard and painful but God has given us the capacity to get on with our lives even after suffering that kind of betrayal.

Obama's take on abortion jeopardizes the lives of thousands of people everyday, people who will not get the opportunity to make a mistake because they are viewed as something that can be just thrown away if the moment just isn't right.

Our society loves utilitarianism and though I don't subscribe to the idea, those who defend it should see that this case does offer a choice for the greater good of a greater number of people.

Believer, I stand corrected. I used to see people stading outside abortion clinics with signs, without any media coverage. However, when a murderer is about to be put to death, the media is quick to cover all the people standing outside holding signs defending the "sanctity" of that man's life.

As an individual who came from a country where neither abortion or capital punishment were legal, I find it quite interesting how some people here in the US view life.

In one hand you have an innocent little person who may not be allowed to have an opportunity to live and make his own choices and some say the mother has a right to take that life and people applaud that freedom of choice. No one is standing outside the clinic with posters saying that "no one has a right to take another's life"; no reprieves, no appeals for someone everyone knows is innocent.

On the other hand you have individuals who made choices that harmed others to the point of taking other people's lives, yet some claim that the state should not be able to take a life and line up outside the prison holding signs stating that "no one has a right to take another's life". Reprieves and appeals are in order for someone who in the majority of cases is guilty.

Can someone explain this to me?

Diana...I will have to agree with you that adultery is a sin. I had never heard about Mc Cain's adultery until recently, but I don't know if he has ever asked God and his family for forgiveness. If that is the case, God has forgiven him and that is in the past.

On another note, I have never heard him endorsing adultery as a person's right or choice. He's not perfect and he has made wrong choices as well as sinful ones, but he does not believe in people having the right to comit the sins he was guilty of committing himself.

Obama's disregard for human life (a sin as well) and the idea of publicly supporting that sin troubles me even more.
