  • House Approves Bill to Create 'International Abortion HQ'

Immoral laws as this one bring our nation further down into the cesspool of wickedness and make it more certain that God's patience with America is wearing thin. The promotion of abortion (infanticide) as a national policy brings us, as a country, closer to eventually experiencing His wrath. Anyone who does not believe this need only read history, noting the penalty suffered by the early Old Testament Jews when babies were sacrificed to Baal despite the warnings given by God's prophets.

Sometimes God will close one door so He can open another. This young woman is better off not being a part of the beauty pageant scene, which is basically carnal and unwholesome and inappropriate for a professing Christian. Her public statement in defense of traditional marriage transcends whatever honors the pageant organization could have given her.

I suppose in some minds the progress of Christ's church on earth is measured by evangelical interest in prosperous family operated 10,000 member "megachurches", noting changes in leadership hierarchy, announcing the names of newly installed "executive directors" and making statements like, "The current economy places many thousands of persons in positions to seek and welcome the encouraging message that we know Robert will provide through his new and inspired efforts." I suppose the church in our contemporary postmodern era is now more concerned with "inspiring", especially in lieu of economic hardships being experienced by many people. Since when is the gospel's purpose to merely inspire? Since when is the message of salvation a matter of just feeling good in times of economic hardship? When I look at these materialistic megachurhes today, I can understand how many of them do not understand the Great Commission and have become more like worldly self help organizations than churches of Jesus Christ.

  • DC Council OKs Out-of-State Gay Marriages

In a general state ballot amendment, it has been proven the voters will turn down same sex marriage. Therefore, the homosexual lobby and their supporters will try to redefine marriage through activist courts. In time, if the Obama administration stacks the Supreme Court with liberal justices, they will try to make same sex marriage the law of the land and overide the states that have marriage protection amendments. For this reason, it is essential that conservative and Christian voters retake the White House, the senate, the congress, and the courts from the Democrats and liberals who are behind the push for same sex marriage.

Cinema in Focus should simply recommend that Christians do not see this movie, nor take their children to see it. Like most contemporary movies, "Land of the Lost" is Hollywood's continuing effort to "evangelize" the general public into accepting the most base and corrupt values a society can promote, all done in the name of supposedly cute humor and entertainment for the kids.

In our trendy and contemporary evangelical circles today, why is it necessary for pastors facing a besetting sin like pornography to start a new ministry dedicated to the discussion of the sin? Why is it necessary to turn a private sin experience into a public expose? The church is in trouble in this postmodern era for many reasons, among them is the lack of virtue, self denial, and humility. When faced with discovery of a struggle with sexual addiction or substance abuse, the mature and courageous response is to seek forgiveness from Our Lord and from our spouses, families, and congregations. If one is a pastor, he should remove himself from the ministry and no longer work as a preacher, primarily because his testimony and Christian witness have been seriously compromised. The bible clearly states the qualifications of pastors, elders, and deacons. Once compromised, one can still serve the church, but it should not be in leadership capacity, nor as a preacher of the word. The individual so affected by public exposure of a besetting sin or sinful lifestyle should no longer seek a public position in a church or ministry. In many cases where such individual Christians seek to form other ministries or return to an original pastoral position after a scandal, the motivating factor is often vanity and pride.

  • Christian Attorneys Ask High Court to Stop ACLU's Attack on Mojave Desert Cross

Flagged as inappropriate. show Christians need to recognize the fact that the ACLU, as a liberal and left wing legal organization founded by American communists, will spare no expense to remove every cross in America if possible. They have already demonstrated they are anti-Christian in their motives and use the law as a tool for expunging religious symbols from the public stage. The goal of the ACLU is to deconstruct the Christian influence on American life, including representative symbols. If they succeed due to the indifference of American Christians and an unwillingness to engage and confront them, you will begin to see generations of Americans who knew not God nor valued the Christian faith. The ACLU is content with working slowly and deliberately, removing crosses as you tear down a building brick by brick. For those professing Christians who side with the ACLU's view on separation should realize they are also separating themselves from the one holy God who has truly blessed our country. As the bible teaches, "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God." hide

  • Reformed Church in America Leaders Adopt Belhar Confession

    John Flanagan »
    Wed Jun 10, 2009 2:34 pm Agree: 13   Disagree: 4

If a denomination wishes to remain true to the Bible, its leaders should realize after reading the word, that it is as unnecessary to have a "diologue on homosexuality" as it is to have a "diologue on adultery, promiscuity, racism or drunkeness." Scripture already addresses these issues clearly. A righteous God has already spoken. No man made seminars or counsels are needed to get further clarity. The RCA also does not need to formally adopt the Belhar Confession. A simple denominational statement of beliefs should already include biblical prohibitions against apartheid or any other types of prejudice. General synods of some Christian denominations spend too much time arguing over issues that should not be introduced in the first place, because they have been settled by Holy Writ. Their time should be spent on how the denomination will do the work of the Great Commission and make the gospel available to a lost and fallen world.

Homosexuals openly celebrating their lifestyle in the military and the promotion of same gender marriage in America are not indications of a progressive and enlightened society, but a declining and morally debased one. Additionally, those churches that have openly ordained homosexual ministers, presided at same gender marriages, and deny the sinfulness of this lifestyle have further eroded the testimony of the Christian faith, but in an age of egrigious apostasy, these things are predictable.

Emphasis should never be on the size, wealth, or demographic makeup of churches professing to be followers of Our Lord. The emphasis is faithfulness to the word, righteousness, and a love and concern for the lost. Rich and lukewarm churches, as described in Revelation, are unfruitful and will be rejected by God.

  • U.S. Appeals Court Votes 3-0 Against Okla. Commandments Display

    Tue Jun 09, 2009 3:32 pm Agree: 4   Disagree: 10

Throughout the history of the church, there have been those dedicated to purging the faith out of society so that men may enjoy living in darkness and sin. Challenging ten commandment displays is such an effort that has at its goal a removal of God's law so that sin may abound and God will disappear from the fabric of American life. Although as history has proven in the past, only a remnant of true believers exist even in Christian nations, legal defeats as this one will not help to eradicate Christianity from our culture. In times of persecution, the direction in which our nation is going, the faith expands, true believers are emboldened, and God, who has the final word, continues His plan for humanity until the coming of Our Lord.

  • UCLA Allows Student to Thank Jesus at Graduation

Christians in our land need to find a backbone. Read Foxxe's Book of Martyrs and see how earlier Christians were put to death, not merely castigated or insulted, for staying true to the faith. I do not believe students need to ask permission to say the name of Our Lord Jesus during a commencement address. What they need to do is simply give their speech and add an impromptu thank you to the One who made it possible for them to achieve this honor or any honor while walking as a Christian on God's earth. To fail to honor Our Lord, even in a secular setting and under the condemnation of the ACLU and atheistic college administrators is to deny Christ. It is a cowardly act and unworthy of any Christian to apologize in a sense for being who they are, a child of God. More college students should simply say the name of Our Lord without apology and without regret. Christians in the student body should support them courageously. These are the "trials and tribulations" and implied persecution Christians need to expect in life, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, will overcome.

  • Black Pastor Urges Southern Baptists to Celebrate Obama's Election

Christians who happen to be African American sometimes focus too much on their own particular racial group rather than on the "kingdom" view that is supposed to connect Christians of all cultures. As such, it may be said that some professing African American Christians are willing to compromise their faith to support a black American president who is for abortion, including late term abortion, supports homosexual marriage, and does not, in his own words, follow biblical Christianity. If a white Christian followed this logic and supported a white president simply because of a shared skin color, it would be equally wrong.

  • Christians Urged to Repent of Religion

    Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:40 pm Agree: 9   Disagree: 2

There is nothing perjorative about the word "religion" being associated with Christianity. The play on words here is a dubious argument. Of course, our Christian religion is centered around Jesus Christ and the truths of the gospel. We must get passed these word games which make Christians seem like a bunch of philosophers arguing about the semantics of religious terms. We have to use the power of discernment given us by the Holy Spirit to define our terms and articulate our motivations. The gospel spells out very clearly the need for us to avoid religion as simply duties or traditions which the Lord preached against during His earthly ministry.

  • Americans Tired of Typical Church, Report Shows

    Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:30 pm Agree: 6   Disagree: 1

Generalizations like these about Americans turning away from their churches for non-traditional ways of worship does no justice to the truth. Worship is not about us. It is about worshipping Our Lord and Savior in a respectful and humble manner, bringing praise as well as our petitions to Him in prayer. If you attend a church where this is not the case, where the service is man centered, where the Bible is not central and inerrant, where the doctrines are unbiblical, than you are commanded to leave it for a church that is faithful to the Word of God. The Christian walk entails making sure you are in a faithful church.

  • Escape from Land of the Lost

    Mon Jun 08, 2009 3:29 pm Agree: 0   Disagree: 1

I am surprised the author of the article refers to the movie "Land of the Lost" to make his point. I very rarely go to a movie these days, as much of the content is not suitable for a Christian to see. Filled with profanity, blasphemy, gratutitous violence, and sexual content, most movies are acted, directed, produced and funded by people who have no respect for God, family, country, or moral virtue. The opposite is true. The promoters of most movies value instead promiscuity, anti-Christian feelings and views, violence, and sick humor. In a sense, we are living in "The Land of the Lost", a nation falling into serious moral and spiritual decline for which the righteous judgment of God will eventually fall. I believe that Chritians must be cautious about all movies, read the reviews if one is being contemplated, and by no means bring children to those which are anathema to our faith and values. We must all remember that we may be in the world but we are not to be of the world, or our testimony as Christians is of no value and we have become hypocrits.
