  • D.C. Board Rejects Ballot Initiative on Gay Marriage

I am taking a break from this site, perhaps permanently. I have been arguing for almost 2 years now and I have only seen the discussions devolve as new members came in and begin becoming more and more vulgar and belligerent towards anything gay. Many on here claim to be saved or claim to be Christians but their behavior suggests anything but. I cannot continue to allow myself to be a part of such mindless banter. I wish you all the best, but hope that someday you will realize the pain and hurt you cause by some of your words.

jar, it sickens me that you use such incredibly foul language and think you are a Christian. I flagged your "fakkot" comment. What an absolutely despicable word to use!!!!

I wonder if Slacker has any problem with Jar's name calling. He just said "I am so sick of the 'fakkots' on this board." I suppose if I questioned his Christianity, I would be name calling in Slacker's book?!?

DP, "You've had your moments" and hasn't everybody? Fact is I wasn't name calling, and Slacker has no foundation to say I call everybody names who I disagree with.

That sickens me. You wish to sit back and eat popcorn while you watch the world burn? How very smug of you, yet you claim superior Christianity.

Slacker, I call everyone who disagrees with me names? Really? Please show me exactly where I do so. Mwalsh posted disgusting rhetoric that I don't think shows a lick of Christianity, but I don't see anywhere that I called him/her a name.

It is very clear you are not interested in conversation but rather in telling me about myself without knowing me. Wow, there's the mark of a true "christian" for ya!

mwalsh, you are utterly full of it and God does not smile kindly on the lies and hatred you clearly feel for the gay community. Do you even know a gay person? I can't imagine so, seeing how rudely and completely ignorantly you speak about us. Shame on you. It wouldn't hurt you to be a Christian ya know :)

Gibbons, you hurl the same ignorant speech racist white men did when they weren't allowed to right to vote on issues like segregation or interracial marriage. First of all, democracy does not mean that the will of the majority takes all, or else our country would look drastically different. Very often, laws are made and upheld by the supreme court against the will of the majority to protect the minority from tyranny. That is why anti-discrimination laws were put into effect...dating all the way back to when the Irish and Italians were the ones being discriminated against for finding jobs until now.

I guess I'm the 1 in 4. For me, there's absolutely nothing better than giving the perfect gift and seeing how much joy it brings someone.

Believer, not at all, but you can believe that if you'd like. It could also be a matter of people convincing themselves that they are straight, hence why the APA referred to it as creating an identity rather than actually changing. Once again, you DO NOT have any valid proof, do not claim you do.

Wilderness, thanks for posting a quote that has nothing to do with what we're discussing!

believer, did I say a thing about those who claim to have victory over homosexuality? NOPE! I have said in the past I am skeptical, but that is because I don't trust you, not because I don't trust them. I would need to have a conversation with them, seeing as how even still you refuse to hear that Spitzer has also said change is not possible for the vast majority of gay men and women and that he never intended to suggest such a thing.

Jar, you cannot safely say 90% of liberals are poorly educated, that is an absolutely ridiculous idea that you could not prove. You say "liberals like me" yet you've never asked me where I stand on a majority of issues. You might be interested to know that I'm not for abortion and think welfare needs to be completely overhauled (and drug tested). This is the exact problem with the liberal/conservative idea. People like you walk around with your nose up claiming liberals are uneducated and insist that everyone who believes a certain way believes every single typical liberal idea, and it simply is not true. Get off your high horse and have a conversation, because the way you behave isn't Christian (that is, stereotyping people rather than having a conversation.)

Believer, the August 6th article said people were able to CREATE AN IDENTITY that allowed them to live according to their faith. It said specifically that there was no evidence reparative therapy worked and therefore they could not recommend it as safe. As for Dr. Spitzer, why don't you post the truth about what he has also said? http://www.religioustolerance.org/hom_spit.htm

    As for Dr. Glassgold: http://www.apa.org/releases/therapeutic.html

Notice the paragraph where she says: "Unfortunately, much of the research in the area of sexual orientation change contains serious design flaws," Glassgold said. "Few studies could be considered methodologically sound and none systematically evaluated potential harms." That doesn't exactly sound like a shining endorsement of change to me! Believer, please stop lying about issues to try and prove your point!
