Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
Hyperion, sorry I keep going back and forth between household obligations and here ... Email or even some movie forum would be cool with me; I actually don't have a Facebook account. But what I mainly wanted to do was share that info with another SB fan. Seems like there are so few of us in the US, I tend to get all jazzed up when I find one. Let me know and I'll talk to you later. God bless.
Only found out about it last summer, myself. I suspect the story may not be as good as the series version of Quest for Iscandar, but the production looks pretty cool. I only hope that they release the DvD with English subtitles (or voiceovers) and the N. Amer region code. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPoNTjwPb5w
Awesome! I'm not huge into anime, but I've always loved Star Blazers. I own the 3 series and introduced my son to Iscandar last year. We've watch a few episodes of Comet Empire so far. Now ... you know there's a live action 'Space Battleship Yamato' released in Japan, right?
SnarlSlayer, very nicely put. Hyperion, hey I left a post for you on the previous "Confession App" thread. It's actually related to none of this :^) BTW, there's hope for everyone; I once held the same sort of pluralistic world view. Jesus snapped me out of it. I'll have to share how I think He did it, again some time.
IHS state, "I read the early church fathers and you can see even in the 1st and 2nd century where the consecrated host was adored. Why? Well, if you believe something to be truly Jesus' body and blood, soul and divinity then worshipping it is worshipping Christ." IHS, I appreciate your candor on this topic. IHS, I appreciate your candor on this topic. I too once believed the same thing and I also appreciate your patient responses to some of my yelling. I'd like to reconsider and maybe rephrase what you said, here. Firstly, be careful about believing in non-canonical writings, even going back to the 1st century. Remember, it didn't take the Gnostics that long to usurp the Word of God and skew it to their agenda. Paul, Peter and the other apostles were doing a good job of spreading the Good News of The Way, and many counterfeits were already trying to hop on board with their own versions.
Also ... consider rephrasing "if you believe something to be truly Jesus' body and blood, soul and divinity then worshipping it is worshipping Christ".
Do you see what you said, there? A paraphrase might go, "If you believe something that's NOT Jesus to BE Jesus ... then it IS Jesus". Based on YOUR OWN personal belief? Or the belief of SOMEONE ELSE who is NOT Jesus? THAT, is a perfect formula in its utter simplicity for idolotry.
Can you (re)explain what you mean ... please? *eyebrows raised, trying to give you every chance*less
Not sure what your refering to by "not mentioned in this forum" ... but counting your post, it's mentioned 29 times, so far ... Hit Ctrl-F and enter "cross" ... uh oh, 30 now. Anyway, I'm not sure where you're deriving this info from, but I've seen your previous posts ... re-read God's Word (just a once over) ... eh?
IHS! You're consistently misunderstanding what Online4Him, revran, and myself are SAYING, here. We are not opposed to statues. We are opposed to worshipping them. I've SEEN the reverence that Catholics pay to graven images ... even little tiny action figure ones with the kung-fu grip, when they pray. STOP SAYING WE ARE AGAINST STATUES. Grrrrrr 8^}
Don't know too much about the other stuff ... but those people Moses led out of the desert who were bitten by serpents were told to "look" at the bronze serpent. I look at a lot of stuff, including shifting my eyes from my keyboard to the monitor on my PC while typing this, but I'm not worshipping either of those things.
IHS, what about genuflecting before the Sacrament in the Tabernacle, or before the consecrated host at Communion? There is nothing that scripturally supports Transubstantiation (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transubstantiation), so this really is another form of idolatry. There is nothing that scripturally supports Transubstantiation (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transubstantiation), so this really is another form of idolatry. Actually, it's the best evidence for idolatry in the RCC, because the claim is made that sacramental host "becomes" the body of Christ. Same with the wine becoming the "blood" of Christ. Nothing in the Bible supports Communion being anything beyond rememberance with the deep spiritual implication that Jesus is the sustainer of eternal life.less
msnchris70, the difference ... the BIG difference is that those pictures and icons are just IN THE SAME PLACE with them while they're are praying. I've seen Catholic parishoners light a candle, and fall to the feet of statues of Jesus, Mary or other saints, praying SO sincerely ... PEERING INTO THE EYES OF THE STATUE, more than once. I've seen Catholic parishoners light a candle, and fall to the feet of statues of Jesus, Mary or other saints, praying SO sincerely ... PEERING INTO THE EYES OF THE STATUE, more than once. They are being led astray. Believe me, I understand that they don't believe the statues are gods ... get it straight, msnchris. At best, they treat them as some kind of conduit or "radio" for worship. I'm sure the ancient pagans didn't believe their golden calfs were gods, incarnate either. Non-Catholic/Orthodox Christians DON'T do this.
If we got rid of ALL our pictures and icons and only knelt to pray in an open field, would you try to support these weak arguments with "HEY, look at that Protestant, praying to the grass"? Or maybe a "cloud" or "airplane" if we're looking skyward?
I mean, seriously ... I have a carving of the Last Supper in my kitchen, but I DON'T BOW DOWN TO IT, PRAY BEFORE IT, OR KISS IT WHEN I WALK BY. I've seen Catholics do these things.
So you're definitely right about INTENT. What's the intent of the people in these examples?less
And following up on BobWeirdsma contribution, if you hear us use phrasing such as, "we yield to the cross", you should take it to mean that we acknowledge only one sacrafice and punishment for absolution of our sins and salvation ... and that is the supreme act of Jesus, our LORD and King. HE IS RISEN.
Amalgamate spilled out, "get on board or burn" ... Don't you mean get on board AND burn? No thanks. I'll wait for the next train. Trust me when I say I'm not worried about the number of people who disagree with me ... Jesus says in Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter through the narrow gate. Trust me when I say I'm not worried about the number of people who disagree with me ... Jesus says in Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." That means that being part of the MINORITY in the way of belief, is reassuring. Stay with the masses ... or join the few ... the saved ... the Christians. "Semper Fidelis!"less
