Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
chi, I have been a Christian for over 20 years and I do not know anyone who refused to take their sick child to the doctors...So, your post shows how little you know about Christians. Besides, would you rather these folks join the cult of Christian Science?
Jrcp, in case you forgot I said I would address those other subjects “after” we discussed “marriage”… So, how do you define ‘sinful’…? Is it something you feel or do you have an objective moral standard by which you define things? Is it something you feel or do you have an objective moral standard by which you define things? According to the Bible marriage is reserved for a man and a woman alone as noted by the following passages….
“For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife” [Mark 10:7].
“Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband” [1 Corinthians 7:2].
Is there anything within the Bible that says otherwise?less
Jrcp, as hard as it may be try and focus on my initial point which was” marriage” in the context of Holy Scripture…You said that I assumed to interpret the Bible correctly and since I was initially speaking of marriage I gave a couple of passages dealing with marriage for you to interpret correctly…I am more than willing to discuss other subjects but I think it best for now to address one ...more

Adam, yes this article is about marriage but in case you forgot this is a Christian site and as such these Scriptural passages are most relevant… Despite what some liberal groups are permitting I along with many others stand on God’s infallible Word and I do not believe that after 2000 years there has all of a sudden been an epiphany regarding another form of marriage. Jrcp said, “…you are starting from a FALSE premise by ASSUMNING that YOU know God’s will and truths, that you are interpreting the bible correctly, and that EVERYTHING in the Bible is true and MUST be believed…” Well, perhaps you can explain these passages more clearly since you believe I am misinterpreting them: “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleav...more

Well, perhaps you can explain these passages more clearly since you believe I am misinterpreting them:

“Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband” [1 Corinthians 7:2].
By the way, why do you read the Bible if you do not believe “everything” in it?less
Correction; you have many “claiming” to be Christians but are not…How is it that those of you who claim to be Christians thumb down verses that explicitly teach God’s view of marriage? No Christian will endorse that which God condemns; period. The unbiblical teachings that some of you are peddling are more akin the doctrines of the Nicolaitans not Christians…
Adam, sorry but there is no marriage debate amongst Bible believing Christians; God ordained marriage for men and women only… The Holy Scriptures do not support homosexual unions, marriages, or same sex intercourse; to suggest otherwise is to place oneself in direct opposition to God’s will…
Chicago, besides infidelity one is able to remarry in cases of abandonment [1 Corinthians 7:15]; I know believers who against good council married an unbeliever and the eventually the unbeliever departed abandoning the believing spouse…Christians should not be unequally yoked together [married] to an unbeliever… Also, Jesus when speaking of marriage and divorce he always referred to a husba...more

Dwights, I do not question your sincerity nor do I question your motives but I would say that it is one thing to ‘throw’ scriptures at one another to simply deflect away an argument and quite another thing to properly exegete a text. The previous texts that we have examined thus far do not mention ‘apostolic succession’ nor teach it; at best this dogma can only be implied. No, there was...more

No, there was no typo, although the Church that Paul described was not the Roman Catholic Church ;) Yes, 1 Timothy 3:15 says that the church is the “pillar and ground of the truth” and we know that “the truth” has been preserved for us in God’s Word…Jesus said, “…Lo, I come in the volume of the book it is written of me, to do thy will, O God” [Hebrews 10:7] and in [John 5:39] he said, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” So, again; it is the Scriptures that Jesus said “they testify of me.” Churches like individuals can and have erred as noted by reading chapters 2 & 3 of Revelation but we know that God’s Word does not err…
It is interesting that Jesus quoted the Old Testament Scriptures over 70 times while the apostles quoted it over 200 times. As we move to the New Testament we see that not ‘once’ did they ever quote ‘sacred tradition’ and not ‘once’ did they ever hint that “new” traditions/teachings were going to come forth…

Jb, your post demonstrates what little knowledge you posses of the Christian faith and the Bible…To say that Jesus never ‘condemns homosexuality’ is a fallacy; as Christians we know that Jesus is God and when he said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am” [John 8:58] we understand that He as God did in fact condemn homosexuality all throughout the Old Testament. The fact that Jesus echoes Genesis 2:24 [“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh”] in Mark 10:7 and in Matthew 19:5 confirms that He recognized and taught that marriage is ‘only’ between a man and a woman… Please read the entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 7 which specifically deals with Christian marriages; notice again that all 40 verses define marriage as a man and a woman [his wife]… Besides, nowhere in God’s Word will you find one example of a same sex marriage or any ‘positive’ language describing of same sex intercourse…less

I don't understand why so many unbelievers come to a Christian website; it is one thing to visit but quite another thing to troll around peddling a reconstructed religion they call Christianity...Anyone claiming to be a Christian while denying the Word of God is ill informed at best or an outright apostate at worst.
“United Methodism’s future will be international, theologically orthodox, and focused on evangelism, not on the fads of declining liberal Protestantism in the U.S.” Amen; God will no doubt honor those who honor his Word... "And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God" (Luke 4:4).
