Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
BobC,
Pedro wrote that over 6 billion people in the world need Jesus.
When you responded, you gave your provocative assertions after you asked, "Prove it." Your assertions were:
I say that's total nonsense.
I say it's disgusting you think Jesus is a big deal. Jesus is dead and he decomposed into nothing many centuries ago.
Prove your dead Jesus has any value.
Every single belief of Christianity is a myth that has no evidence and couldn't possibly be true.
People are brainwashed to believe it and their religion would be obsolete if anyone knew the truth about it.
Not once did you broach the subject of how you prove anything from history or in contemporary experience. What is the nature of proof in historiography? My friend was a conman and a rebellious thief. When the Gospel of Jesus Christ, verified historically in his death and resurrection, was proclaimed, George received the living Christ into his life and became a radically changed family man over night, but with growth in sanctification as he lived the Christian life.
If Christianity is total nonsense, why didn't you set out to prove historically that this is so. How is mythology defined historically versus historical facts?
If I set out to prove that Jesus not only has value but also transforms lives, what evidence would you accept? Your resistance seems to indicate that no matter what evidence I present for Jesus, his life, death and resurrection, and how he transforms human lives for the better, you would not receive it.
I am writing on this topic at this computer because the living Jesus has transformed my life from a radical, good for nothing rebel, to a Christian who has been changed from the inside out. But from the content of what you write, there is little hope that you are open to the evidence historically or existentially. What is fueling your kind of antagonism?
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
