  • Appalled by 'Hate' Speech, Md. Senator Changes Gay Marriage Stance

DEAR MAXVERITAS: Incestuous relationships like the one you posit have no more to do with Gay marriage than they do with Straight marriage. It's a red herring. The only difference between Gay and Straight marriages is the gender of the two people who have made a commitment to one another. It has nothing to do with incest, polygamy, pedaphilia, or bestiality. Get a grip.

  • U.K. Christians Alarmed by Push to Allow Gay Ceremonies in Churches

Just because Gay couples are being ALLOWED to have weddings in a church doesn't been churches are being FORCED to host weddings. No church or synagogue or mosque will ever be FORCED to host a wedding for anyone. However, there ARE churches that are more than willing to marry Gay couples.

  • Survey: 65 Percent of Americans Support Prayer in Public Schools

I suppose the best way to handle this is to reserve each of the five days of the week for a different form of prayer. On Monday students could pray in the traditional Christian fashion, wish hands clasped in silence. On Tuesday we could have readings from the Talmud and the Torah, and students could strap phylacteries to their arms and heads. On Wednesday students could roll our prayer ...more

On Wednesday students could roll our prayer rugs and pray toward Mecca, although this would probably have to be done more than once during class time.

On Thursday students would have a big Eastern polytheist festival, including the burning of incense, singing Hare Krishna, and presenting offering to Lord Ganesha and Buddha.

And maybe on Friday students would sacrifice animals and dance naked in the hallway.

Better yet, why don't we just leave public schools the way they are, have students go to school to learn English and Math and Science and Social Studies, and leave the praying at home and in church?less

  • Testimony of Lesbians' Son Goes Viral on YouTube

The testimony of this young man was amazingly articulate and touching. It's unfortunate that Christian Post used it as a springboard for yet another long sneer at marriage equality for Gay couples.

I have no problem discussing religion with people. Over the years I've gotten into lots of fascinating and intense theological discussions. It's when people start going all "Great Commission" on me that I end up backing away. Your relationship witth God is YOUR business. Please don't assume you have to make it MINE.

  • Creation vs. Evolution – The New Shape of the Debate

Dr. Mohler writes, "If evolution is true, then the entire narrative of the Bible has to be revised and reinterpreted." This is a bit hyperbolic, in my humble opinion. Dr. Mohler writes, "If evolution is true, then the entire narrative of the Bible has to be revised and reinterpreted." This is a bit hyperbolic, in my humble opinion. The Bible provides us with a moral and ethical framework within which we might better conduct our lives with decency and humility ... but the Bible is NOT a science textbook.

What are we supposed to make of the contention that all of Creation took place roughly 6,000 years ago? It conflicts with a mountain of physical, astronomical, and mathematical evidence, yet most evangelists claim that if you DON'T believe that, you might as well throw the whole Bible out the window.

What are we supposed to make of the claim, in Genesis, that God created seedbearing plants BEFORE He created the Sun, Moon, and stars? It might make for poetic reading, but from a scientific perspective it's completely off the charts.

Dr. Mohler claims that modern scientist are guilty of leaving "God" out of their theories. I suppose this is true. But when it comes to "Young Earth" creationists like Mohler, you start with the supposition that "God" is responsible for everything in exactly the miraculous sort of way the Book of Genesis states, and anything that doesn't fit in with that view is automatiically dismissed as nothing more than an elaborate Satanic deception.

I wish people would leave the HOWS of creation to the scientists, and the WHYS of creation to theologians like Dr. Mohler. Otherwise Dr. Mohler will just have to get to work on "revising and reinterpreting" the Bible, because evolution is indeed a FACT.less

  • Francis Chan: Prayers Make Christians Different; Our God Listens

  • Family Group Denounces Ill. Gay Civil Unions Law

So often I hear it said, "I don't care if you grant equal rights to Gay couples, just don't call it MARRIAGE." And yet, when an alternative arrangement of some other name is created, the usual "Family Values" groups go absolutely BALLISTIC. Go figure.

  • Retired Science Teacher Seeks to Bar Evolution from Classrooms

DEAR GODISGOOD1: I looked at the website you mentioned. It's a "Young Earth" creationist organization. They believe all of creation occured about 6,000 years ago. This goes against a MOUNTAIN of astronomical, physical, and mathematical evidence to the contrary. That some of their people have the nerve to call themselves "scientists" is an embarrassment to the profession.

  • 'The Rite' Tops Box Office, Rakes in $15 Million

It's interesting that Christian Post seems to be carrying the torch for this movie. Maybe it's the fact that subject matter has been dumbed-down to a PG-13. Or maybe it's the contention that there is such a thing as demonic possesssion. Obviously the studio and the producers are happy with the box office. Me, I prefer living in the real world.

I have to wonder: If these newly empowered "Party of God" Republicans are successful in revoking marriage rights for Gay couples in places like DC, Iowa, and New Hampshire .... while their goal be to have all the marriages that have ALREADY taken place declared "null and void?" And of course in more primitive cultures the BELIEF in demonic possession is much more common. People believe that they CAN be possessed, some people are convinced that they ARE possessed. This kind of superstitious suggestibility is quite common. ARE they actually possessed by invisible spirits? C'mon!

The only reason the Catholic Church clings wistfully to this quaint tradition of exorcism is because there are enough gullible people to swallow this nonsense ... just like people believe in witchcraft and ouija boards and palmistry and astrology and a bizillion other kinds of mumbo-jumbo.
