The Methodist Church is dying because they don't preach the Word of God. It's as simple as that. I took my mother-in-law to a local UMC congregation several weeks ago, and I asked her several hours after the service what the sermon topic was, and what she could remember from the message, and she just had a blank stare and said, "I can't remember."
Exactly, she just proved my point. They spent half their service performing musical numbers of various variety, and read one passage of scripture and spent 20 minutes having the pastor preach some feel good message that had nothing to do with scripture.
Going to church is about worshipping God. It's not about feeling good about yourself when you walk out the door. If you are worshipping God you will remember what the message was about, and you'll take at least one or two relevent points home with you. This is not happening in the Methodist church, where they are more concerned with cook outs and bake sales, then they are with making disciples of Jesus Christ.
Welcome to the Country Club of Christianity. And not one person besides myself in attendance brought a Bible with them for worship. That alone should tell you all you need to know about how little these people are being fed spiritually.

Just another denomination that sold themselves out to the things of this world, rather then adhering to the Word of God. Shameful at best. An abomination to say the least. The Lutheran church should no longer be considered a Christian church.

The problem with Dawkins is he is replacing true science with religion. You can call it whatever you want, but when you are professed atheist you then have a bias that is undeniable in your "science". And the fact that he goes out of his way to use juvenile name calling to attack anyone that disagrees with his brand of religion makes him insignificant and unworthy of serious consideration, scientifically speaking.
Honestly, if God does not exist, then why do you get all bent out of shape trying to ignore it or disprove it? Seriuosly, if "Creationism" is all a big joke, then why do you write books and lecture about how insignificant it all is?
The answer is that he continues to rail against it because he knows he can't win a real debate. His science is just a religion packaged in different names. Call it whatever you want, but Dawkins has a great fear of being wrong, and his pride will be the death of him.

As a child who grew up in the Presbyterian church I can simply tell you that the Presbyterian church is dying because they stopped preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and opted instead to preach the gospel of secular christianity. They started trying to please people and failed to hold firm to the truths of scripture.
This is the same reason why the Methodists, Lutherans, Episcopals, etc, etc, are all dying denominations.
And I'll close by saying that in 12 years growing up in a Presbyterian Church I was never once asked to read the bible, in or out of church. And that my friends is all you need to know about the failure of the PCUSA.
As for you guys who are ripping each other apart on some meaningless doctrine - check your pride at the door.

Public figures, as well as Pastors should always be held to the standards listed in 1 Timothy 3. Once you fall from those standards you should be forced to resign your leadership position, and begin the process of healing and forgiveness.
I was divorced 15 years ago and I still consider myself unqualified for any sort of public office, or leadership role within the church. Perhaps it is the pride and ego of these officials that fails to help them recognize the damage their moral failings are doing to the offices in which they hold.
And those that are attacking Colson obviously are looking for any excuse to attack the man. Colson was speaking in general about the situation of ALL public figures caught in moral failure, and was not taking cheap shots at Sanford. And because of Colson's past, I think he is uniquely qualified to render an opinion on what was going through Sanford's head to cause this tragedy.
Flagged as inappropriate. show Gary Hamrick at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, VA spends the last two Sundays every year doing a Q&A with his church. Ask him whatever you want, and get a direct answer, based on scripture. Craig Groeschel at Lifechurch.tv has done a Q&A in the past before as well. I think it was a 4 part series. The Q&A thing is definitely not new to churches. I'm not really sure why this is newsworthy, other then it was probably pimped by the Pastor in this article, who is always looking for a way to promote and market his church. hide

We need to pray for the Holy Spirit to move hearts in North Korea.
I always find it interesting when you quote scripture or speak from the Word of God how easily the finger is pointed at the one reading the Word of God as a "homophobe" or a bigot. Or you get the standard, "That's just your 'interpretation' of scripture." when the blind disagree with what the Bible says.
Without absolute truth you are wasting your time here. Without acknowledging the Holiness of God, or the existence of the sin of homosexuality, then your words are meaningless and without merit.
And if you choose to lump all "fundamentalists" into one giant stereotype, then you truly aren't showing the "love" that you seem to think is exhibited by Jesus Christ. And it's funny how the practicing gay community wants acceptance for their lifestyle choices. I cannot in good conscience accept what God has condemned as an "abomination". Go ahead and ignore what scripture says if you like, but we will all have to answer to God one day for our lives.
So don't point the finger at me as being a homophobe, or judging the homosexual. I am merely pointing to God's word, and providing the response that I am commanded to, which is to proclaim the truth of God's word to any and all that would listen.
I do find it deeply troubling that there are more anti-Christians here then there are Christians. That is just simply proof that the gay agenda is not about tolerance, but about silencing Christians. If you can promote your agenda, and continue to crash Christian sponsored websites and places on the internet, then you can silence the truth, and then your agenda is propagated into the hearts and minds of the majority. The same thing happened in 1933 in Germany.
And yes, I would compare the Gay Agenda to Nazi Germany. Because those gay folks who are intimidating Prop 8 supporters in California and terrorizing them through email, phone calls, and coercion are no better then the thugs that tried to extinguish the Jews in the 1930's and 40's in Germany.
And if that is your definition of "love", then I want no part of it.

Everyday should be a National Day of Prayer. Why do I need to POTUS to proclaim it?
There is no doubt that attacks against even the mentioning of God or the things of God have risen in the past 10 years significantly. The legal attacks will continue unabated by a nation of fools that wish to wipe out God from the public square.
While God is certainly watching, He is just sitting back to see how man proceeds. God is waiting for each of us to decide which team we would like to be on. We can decide to be on God's team, or on Satan's team.
But to be on God's team you have to repent of your sin, turn from it, and trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. To be on Satan's team requires no effort at all. Just continue to support lawsuits that wish to strike down God in the public square, or continue to support sins, such as abortion and homosexuality.
The choice is entirely in your hands and in your heart. You can reject God and go with society, or you can choose God, and reject this abominable lawsuit.
rusty.boy - if you believe that Jesus of the New Testament is different from the God of the Old Testament, then you truly need to pick up a bible and start reading it again. As for Jesus being all about love, you truly have no clue what you are saying. Try reading Matthew 24 - the entire chapter, and tell me what this love of Jesus is, and what he predicts for the future.
You, like this entire wicked and sinful generation truly have bigger problems then arguing over gay marriage here on a forum, but need to repent of your sin and get right with God. But if you (and your friends) think that you are good person and will go to heaven based on some sort of sliding scale, you are foolish and will perish. Read Romans 3:23 and see what it says. I mean, if you are a "good person", why would you need a savior? And if you don't need a savior, then why do you need to ask forgiveness.
Homosexuality is no different from any other sin, and God cannot let sinners into heaven. And honestly, those that are in unrepentant sin probably want no part of heaven, because heaven is all God, all the time. And if you are rejecting God in favor of your sin now, then I don't blame you for rejecting heaven. So, as Romans 1 tells us, God allows sinners to sit in their depraved state and reject God. It's called free will, and God will allow you to chose to go into eternal damnation in Hell. But if you would like to actually read the words of Jesus in the Bible that describes Hell, I am quite sure that you will prefer to spend eternity in Heaven.
The choice is yours. Repent and turn from your sin, and trust Jesus as your savior, or continue to revel in your sin, and boast about it here on a Christian website. And just because a depraved and wicked society seems to think that homosexuality is acceptable and that there is nothing wrong with it will not change what God says about it. It's sin, pure and simple.
Repent, ask forgiveness, and ask Jesus into your life as Lord and Savior. All you have to do is ask.

Are there any Christians left in the UK? Funny, because I thought it was completely humanistic. That would be why people aren't showing God's love through their money.
Oh great, another conversation about the attention hungry gay agenda that goes nowhere and does nothing bud divide Christians against one another. Congrats Satan, but I'm not taking the bait today. Good day Lucipher. Enjoy eternity in hell.

You know - this should not be a surprise to anyone. Obama and his radical left-wing agenda will take a broad brush to any policies that oppose traditional family and values. Abortion, gay marriage, embryonic stem cell research, etc. It's almost as simple as saying that if orthodox Christianity is against it Obama is for it.
But as a good friend of my father often said, "We have the government we deserve."
So let's continue to cheer for "Change". (deep sarcasm implied)
It needs to be noted that assisting the ill and lame with their physical ailments is not the ultimate goal of Christian missionaries. If we undertake these endeavors we need to constantly share the truth of the Gospel.
Yes, heal the physical needs of the downtrodden. But without a spiritual healing our work as Christians is completely null and void.

This act should not surprise anyone, anywhere. As mentioned in the news article, this has been a political football since 1984 when Reagan first enacted it. Put a Republican in office and the funds are removed. Put a Democrat in office and they reverse it.
What disturbs me the most is that the Federal Government us supporting the funding of abortions. Sure, you can stand behind Roe vs. Wade and allow abortions by law, but why are you going out of your way to make it happen? How can anyone morally justify that position?
Again, whether you are for or against this, it is one thing to say you don't want abortions, but still believe it should be legal for those that insist on it, or want that option. But it is another thing entirely to go out of your way to pay for it with taxpayer money.
That is my objection to this measure. While I am firmly pro-life and object to abortion entirely, my objection here is in the deceptive wording by the President and those members of Congress who conveniently sidestep their position on abortion as murder by eagerly signing the check to kill innocent life.
Serious character flaw there, no matter how you want to word it.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
