"Remember that Christ came for the sick in this world, not the healthy"
Proper exegesis is in need here...Christ did heal many sick, however that is not why He came into the world if you mean sick in the worldly sense.
He came to fulfill the Father's will. To preach the word, become a propitiation for our sins and die on the cross the death that we deserve and was rose again the third day by the Father.
All this for those whom the Father calls to Salvation through His Son.
Soli Deo Gloria!!!

Blue1018,
First you make assumptions that you have no founding for,"Apparently someone has not been to Africa or Latin American or even the more ghetto of ghettos in Philadelphia and New York and seen how the majority of the world lives."
You see I have been to the mission field in Africa, Nairobi, Kenya, I am currently involved in ministry in the Slums or Squatter area's in the Philippines and I DO know the needs of the people.
The world, the lost do not need Rick Warren's "Social Gospel" the world needs the True Gospel of Truth. It would be very easy for me to preach a social gospel but then that is no gospel at all.
Preach the Word, in season, out of season! We hear today a gospel that is designed to "tickle the ears" of those who cannot stand sound doctrine.
Can the church do good, Yes but the primary mission again is Preach The Word!!!
Soli Deo Gloria!!!

Again God's Word instructs us to Preach The Word. Are we to care for the Sick, the Widow and the Children...Sure...But uttermost, we are to Preach The Word, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Great Commission is to go to all the world, teaching and preaching the word of God, making disciplies and Baptizing them in the Name of the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit.
May God and Him Alone be glorified...not man or his ways because they are deceitfully wicked.

The role of the Church is not to solve the ills of the world but to be faithful to the Preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
