Next they will tell us that the marsupials are unnatural and kangaroos and koalas are a Satanic substitute. All of this would be hilarious if it did not adversely impact the lives of millions of decent people who are targeted by the fundamentalists in an effort to make themselves relevant. Fundamentalism needs an enemy, a crusade. They need some group to stand in for Satan.
The reshaping of the debate is another attempt to draw attention away from the reality. Fundamentalism has no credibility in relation to science. Fundamentalism is like the guy who invested in 8 Track and still wants to debate with those who picked cassettes tapes. Meanwhile the rest of the world is listening to their I-pod. Fundamentalism is like the guy who invested in 8 Track and still wants to debate with those who picked cassettes tapes. Meanwhile the rest of the world is listening to their I-pod. Mohler hopes that he can convince everyone that their is a religious benefit to supporting his all or nothing 8 Track stand while the people he attacks in this article are trying to help fundamentalists deal with the truth by saying they have to accept the existence of cassettes and prepare for even greater change.. Meanwhile they are not even approaching where science is to say nothing of where it is going.less
Well Dan the Bible does not mention what happened to Joseph, or any of Jesus' siblings (James excluded). We don't get much on what happened to Lazarus and his sisters, or much about the sons and daughters of the disciples. Peter was married. Did he have kids? What happened to his wife? We don't know how Jesus got along with other kids growing up. Was he a cool guy or was he like a perpetual ...more

Well great Dan. So are you a good representative of what your church produces? If so then you make my point and are exactly what the article is speaking of. You attract those with a need for such rigid faith. I am fine that they are happy. You attract those with a need for such rigid faith. I am fine that they are happy. But the kind of mindless inability to differentiate between dogma and the experience of people, calling anyone who does not accept your interpretation lost and bound for hell, is what will continue to run off more and more young people. And you will see it in your own church as young people leave to go to college, fall out of the milieu that supports your sense of reality, and sees the world without stereotypes. One good gay or lesbian friend will overcome a mass of bad religion.less
Actually you are correct 2theotherside, a lot of fundamentalist Muslims share your irrational hate and fear of gays. You will find that most white supremacists agree with you as well. Whenever you do well in presenting your case SBellam, some will decide you don't like the topic. By that they mean you don't agree with their theology and they wish you would leave. If they could easily refute you they would want you to stay and be a whipping boy. Congratulations, you are doing well.

A further comparison to the similarities found in saviors in the ancient world, Mithras and Jesus share many attributes.
Mithra had twelve companions as Jesus had twelve disciples. Mithras also was said to perform miracles.
International Encyclopedia states: "Mithras seems to have owed his prominence to the belief that he was the source of life, and could also redeem the souls of the dead into the better world ... The ceremonies included a sort of baptism to remove sins, anointing, and a sacred meal of bread and water, while a consecrated wine, believed to possess wonderful power, played a prominent part."
4)Chambers Encyclopedia says: "The most important of his many festivals was his birthday, celebrated on the 25th of December, the day subsequently fixed -- against all evidence -- as the birthday of Christ.less

The Vatican was built upon the grounds previously devoted to the worship of Mithra (600 B.C.). The Orthodox Christian hierarchy is nearly identical to the Mithraic version. Virtually all of the elements of Orthodox Christian rituals, from miter, wafer, water baptism, alter, and doxology, were adopted from the Mithra and earlier pagan mystery religions. The religion of Mithra preceded Christianity by roughly six hundred years. Mithraic worship at one time covered a large portion of the ancient world. It flourished as late as the second century.
1)Mithra was born on December 25th as an offspring of the Sun. Next to the gods Ormuzd and Ahrimanes, Mithra held the highest rank among the gods of ancient Persia. He was represented as a beautiful youth and a Mediator. Reverend J. W. Lake states: "Mithras is spiritual light contending with spiritual darkness, and through his labors the kingdom of darkness shall be lit with heaven's own light; the Eternal will receive all things back into his favor, the world will be redeemed to God. The impure are to be purified, and the evil made good, through the mediation of Mithras, the reconciler of Ormuzd and Ahriman. Mithras is the Good, his name is Love. In relation to the Eternal he is the source of grace, in relation to man he is the life-giver and mediator"less
