  • A Tale of Two Atheists

This great Atheist push by Dawkins is his answer to the fact that people still turn to religious leaders and to the likes of Jesus for answers to the ultimate questions. Scientists (of which I are one) can, in the end, only describe existence, not explain it. Dawkins wants us to fall at the feet of this lot and say, "You, the white coat crowd, are our gods, since some of you have so ably destroyed God. Explain everything to us!" Sorry, Dawk, it don't fry the fish for most of us.

So enough of us in the PCUSA have dug in our heels and said, "Bible over current culture." The other side might make some headway on this issue if they actually cracked their dusty Bibles and found some justification there for changing ordination standards. But, as in the politics of today, it's not very fashionable to rely on foundational documents like the Bible or the U.S. Constitution. It's all about what floats the boats of this all-about-me generation.

What's the point of studying or following any particular religion if they all have the same "power"? Even though I have trouble with the concepts of heaven and hell, I still see the acceptance of Jesus Christ as the savior of humanity as the only hope for true salvation, even if salvation is defined in terms simply of the civilized survival of the human race. Those who think that other religions have equal power are generally those who have benefited from a Christian upbringing or at least the advantages of living in a society founded on Christian principles.

Bankruptcy, renegotiate contracts, then give a million or more U.S. residents $20,000 each to buy a Big Three vehicle. Price tag about $25B.

Even before I returned to Christianity, I found it enormously annoying to hear, "Happy Holidays" from people who were making a buck off Christ's birthday. Even then I said, "Merry Christmas," in simple deference to the origin of the holiday. (Means a lot more to me now, though.)

As a member of the PCUSA, I am very saddened by my denomination's vindictive and coercive behavior. Do we really think that law suits and accusations will keep congregations loyal? Accusing the EPC of recruiting PCUSA congregations is laughable. I think maybe the recruiting is being done at a higher level.
