Daniel Paul, I am not claiming there is a Biblical basis against interracial marriage, I am saying Christians decades ago used the Bible to argue against interracial marriage. Just like Christians today use the Bible to argue against Gay Marriage.

Am I really saying something so outrageous? Are you denying that Christians use to claim the Bible was against interracial marriages? If so, just a little research will confirm my statement. If not, then can you not acknowledge the parallels between the arguments of today against gay marriage and decades ago against interracial marriage?

And Weekend, I don't know how you define hermeneutics, but yes, I think it is important for us all to understand that when we interpret the Bible, we may not be 100% accurate in God's Intention or God's Word. It disturbs me to listen to people who claim to know God's Design or God's Will with absolute certainty.

I believe our individual faiths are made from what we believe is God's Design and God's Will but we are human: full of prejudice, self-indulgence and sin. And so. . . while my faith may be as true as my existence on earth, I would never claim my faith and beliefs to be solely correct and deem anyone that claims the contrary to "morally bankrupt."

And Tom, while you say your argument is straight out of scripture, so too, was the argument made by Christians against interracial marriages.

    Believer,

You say "God never opposed interracial marriages" but in arguing against interracial marriage, Christians often insisted that interracial marriages were contrary to God's Word. I am not trying to say you don't have the right to believe that gay marriage is against "God's Word," but if nothing else, please understand that your argument is IDENTICAL as the argument used decades ago when Christians argued against interracial marriages.

Do a Google search of "Miscegenation Laws" which kept mixed couples from marrying and you will find the EXACT SAME arguments used against gays from marrying. One of these arguments, your argument, is that it is "unnatural" and/or "Against God's Will".

Believe what you wish to believe, but you are repeating history. (Which was my point all along.)

    Gr8tgary,

Following your logic, anyone who eats lobster or wears polyester (or any mixed fabric) are an abomination unto the Lord, equal in sin as incestuous rapists, homosexuals and pedophiles.

I do hope you practice what you preach and steer clear of the Red Lobster (the whole shell fish thing), Halloween (cause wearing a costume is an abomination), and Banks. Yes, according to the bible charging or paying interest is an abomination.

And by your theory all are equal to the sin of being homosexual. Good luck trying to get into Heaven.

    Believer,

Do you speak for God when you say His "original and only design for marriage was of one man and one woman"?

If so, "Beware of practicing your piety before men. . ." (Matthew 6:1)

If instead you are asking me to share how the definition of "one man and one woman" is the same as "the races shall not mix," you completely missed my point. My point is the ARGUMENTS are the same.

    1) Marriage as an institution is at risk if gays/mixed race couple are allowed to marry
    2) Children are better off in straight/single race families
    3) God's design excludes gays/mixed race couples from getting married
    4) blah, blah, blah

I am constantly amused by so-called "Christians" that are so quick to judge homosexuals and/or those that support gay marriage. In the comments on this page the judgment being made is that we are "Morally Bankrupt," as if the biblical meanings behind "Judge not, lest ye be judged" or "Let him without sin cast the first stone" weren't universally understood.

And further amusement is had when listening to so-called "Christians" argue against gay marriage using the EXACT same reasons that were used against inter-racial marriages decades before. The arguments are almost word for word. But then those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

    AMAZING.
