  • U.S. Leg of Olympic Torch Relay Dodges Protestors

song2vs4 - almost correct, it is the wrong platform, except that China is using the platform for their own political purposes. Since they, as hosts, decided to try to use the torch relay and the Olympics to promote themselves as a member-in-good-standing international country then they are the ones that opened themselves up to protesters trying to highlight things that are wrong.

Hi Adam. Please go to World Relief, www.worldrelief.org. They have programs trying to address the issues of human trafficking. It is interesting to me that the article mentioned that we in the States are basically unaware of it going on in the U.S. As outreach coordinator, I tried to get some of this info out into my church but there was little interest from the congregation or the board. Maybe we, as as citizens of tremendous privilege, are too embarrassed to look at what is happening on our own soil or what our citizenry are a part of around the world in the pursuit of money and pleasure. Keep struggling for justice!

Hey BoldEvangelical, were you just as outraged when the Reagan administration investigated black churches with the IRS because the African-American establishment refused to support him?

Also, do you really want the IRS abolished which will result in a badly regressive tax system: which is a higher percentage of income taken for taxes from those with the least wealth? The $1.00 tax I may pay on clothing is a much higher percentage of my $8.75 per hour wage than it is of President Bush's multi-million dollar per year income (when you count all of his investments, etc.). That hardly seems fair. But then again, I don't have financial clout to be cared about.

    mcfbc,
Very interesting to hear your comments about your lower income neighborhood. My wife and I ministered in a similar neighborhood. Not only did we consistently fail in recruiting churches but many of the people in our own little country church refused to come to our house. We finally realized that our prayer requests about druggies, murderers, robbers, police, etc. had scared them off. We coveted their prayers, but wondered if we had not been better off not talking about the realities so they may have come to visited and maybe get a glimpse of God at work and how they could join in.

Sure popular culture has a lot to do with influencing teenagers - and adults. Otherwise, companies wouldn't spend billions of dollars on advertisements. However, we need to first ask why the church has so little influence on teenagers - and adults - and culture? Part of it, I believe, is that Christians are spending far too much time, energy and resources in trying to ensure that the U.S. is a safe place for Christians. All of us would be amazed at what would happen if all of the time, energy and resources were otherwise spent on influencing (evangelizing) for Jesus Christ and for caring for our neighbors, Christian and non-Christian alike.

Sorry, it wasn't 1973 that the right to life was no longer unalienable. That was codified by the Constitution at the founding of our nation in Article 1, Section 2: ...which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. "Right to life" was never unalienable in the U.S. "Our sins and the iniquities of our fathers have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn to all those around us," Daniel 9:16b was simply borne out in 1973.

Yes, this criticism is correct. I agree with what is said. BUT, in the real world of "justice" in the U.S. it is not blind justice. Typically, the severity of the penalty is based more on the "race" of the victim, even in the most henious crimes. Yes, I will agree with the article, BUT, what are the suggestions for resolving of blind justice in our current system?
