Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
I'm not sure we should be inviting the general public to hand out religious materials to our children at school. Obviously, they could be handed all kinds of things. It all sounds like a great idea until your son or daughter comes home from elementary school with some book about Scientology.
"As we begin 2009, the Church must renew its commitment to protecting the life and true dignity of every human--from natural conception until natural death." Is that sentiment meant to include the life and dignity of Palestinian people? Is that sentiment meant to include the life and dignity of Palestinian people? It's rather easy to make the call when it comes to abortion and euthanasia, but we need to rise to greater challenges if we are to be a genuinely moral people.less
There seem to be a lot of people around here who insist on mixing church and state--until they see the result. Then they throw a fit because it's not their particular religious beliefs being held up as those of the nation. More and more I see the wisdom of the strict separationists.
"...homosexual marriage, abortion, women Pastors..." Because we all know from scripture that Jesus devoted his earthly ministry to these three issues! Guess what forsaltnlight, the "pickers and choosers" the article makes reference to aren't all "liberals".
Well, the truth is that the oath of office for the US Presidency is explicitly specified in the Constitution. Should individuals serving in government be allowed to modify that oath according to their personal religious beliefs? That's what this lawsuit is about. It's fine to go on about (what we know of) the beliefs of various founding fathers. However, the constitution says what ...more

I don't think an adoption agency should be allowed to discriminate using any criteria other than those which are directly related to the ability to be a good parent. It's not just an issue of funding, in my opinion Phat. The agencies have a responsibility primarily to the children they are trying to place. To rule out potential parents for any reason other than inability to parent i...more

It's not just an issue of funding, in my opinion Phat. The agencies have a responsibility primarily to the children they are trying to place. To rule out potential parents for any reason other than inability to parent is wrong and hurts the children.less
Involving the faith in this kind of petty culture war politics is a huge mistake. The absurd #2 and #3 items illustrate (yet again) that there are false prophets among us who teach that Christianity is interchangeable with Republicanism. A damnable heresy.
Muggle, I wasn't thinking of you in particular, as I assumed that you were merely commenting on the Camp Meeting Association's policy, not endorsing it. Pardon me if I wasn't clear. I very much appreciate that you raised the point, since it illustrates the contorted and highly selective interpretations some will force on the Bible to try to make it ratify their preferences or pr...more

I found this comment interesting: "Incidentally, if it were a heterosexual Jewish wedding, I don't think there would be a problem." We all know that's absolutely true, and in fact, Jewish couples have used the pavilion over the years for weddings and ceremonies. I found this comment interesting: "Incidentally, if it were a heterosexual Jewish wedding, I don't think there would be a problem."
We all know that's absolutely true, and in fact, Jewish couples have used the pavilion over the years for weddings and ceremonies. I guess for some "Christians" being heterosexual is more important than accepting Jesus Christ as savior. Such a belief is clearly heresy against the Bible, is it not? Shouldn't Christians who profess it be called out as the frauds they are?
Yet, some people like to nurse a special hatred against gay and lesbian people, with poisons their thinking and leads them into all kinds of error.less
Honest question: if the law in a particular state or country is that two people of the same-sex can marry, why shouldn't children learn that that's what the law is? I don't see any particular reason why they shouldn't. Or is there something more sinister involved in this alleged "curriculum" about same-sex marriage?
This is foulest of anti-gay propaganda, Mr. Colson, written specifically to whip up hatred and to rationalize cruelty against gay and lesbian people. And it's a little hard to take coming from someone well known to have plotted to firebomb the offices of a political opponent.
Who is Christopher West? He's not the Bible. Does Christopher West define what Christianity stands for, or does the Bible? Here's what the Bible says: 1 Corinthians 7:1 I now deal with the subjects mentioned in your letter. It is well for a man to abstain altogether from marriage. Here's what the Bible says:
1 Corinthians 7:1 I now deal with the subjects mentioned in your letter. It is well for a man to abstain altogether from marriage. (WEY)
1 Corinthians 7:9 If, however, they cannot maintain self-control, by all means let them marry; for marriage is better than the fever of passion. (WEY)
1 Corinthians 7:27 Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to get free. Are you free from the marriage bond? Do not seek for a wife. (WEY RSV)
1 Corinthians 7:38 So then both he who gives his own virgin in marriage does well, and he who doesn't give her in marriage does better. (WEB KJV WEY ASV WBS YLT NAS RSV)
Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. (WEB KJV WEY ASV DBY WBS YLT NAS RSV NIV)
Are there other passages that are specifically prescriptive with regard to marriage?less
Bringing up the example of the polygamous (and occasionally incestuous) patriarchs may be a kind of mockery, but isn't there a valid point in there? There is plenty of plain immorality on display in the bible, and honest Christians will admit that.
This kind of "christian" is an embarrassment to all of us. How arrogant does one have to be to put one's own words into the mouth of Jesus? Particularly when those words are as trivial and ridiculous as this? Here's another example of a phony culture war issue eating away at the faith like dry rot.
