ovidliving: UMC attendance rates might be climbing in some standout "purpose driven" churches, but it remains less than 1/3 of total membership throughout the denomination. Citing three churches in the midwest as examples of church growth doesn't do much to capture the reality of UMC decline everywhere else in the U.S.

Well, values voters, if you choose to stand behing Mike Huckabee, you are dooming yourselves to another election of irrelevance. He's not viable. Get over him.

What's interesting is that "Bishop" Schori's attempt to justify their departure from Christ looks a lot like the inner dialogue a lot of folks have with themselves when they justify their own personal actions which are contrary to Christ's teachings. This can be a lesson to us all: If we ever start sounding like this woman or this church, we know we are WAY off track.

The "most reverend" Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori is the most ridiculous impostor of a Christian I have ever witnessed. Why does she even bother heading a Christian church when she so clearly teaches such a watered down gospel it can hardly be recognized as the message of Jesus?
I'm certain that some Schori fans will counter me, but I'm sorry folks, your leader is a sham and your whole denomination will continue to crumble and fall until you refocus on internalizing your redeemer's message (no matter how difficult it is to be called to repentance) instead of adapting his message to fit the framework of a corrupted American culture's latest philosophical trends.

Every major denomination in the U.S. is in decline...
Fewer and fewer members of young generations identify as Christians...
less than 1% of teens hold a biblical worldview...
Atheism and Wicca are among the fastest growing "religions" in the country...
And these guys chose to use their ministry to "expose" Mormonism...
I think American Christianity needs to get their own house in order before they attack the Mormons.

I'm with Blacksho89 on this one. Jesus told us to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and let the godly things in this life be dedicated to him. (Paraphrased :)) The state can stay out of my marriage and that's just fine, it was conducted in God's name, not the governor's.
sigh...
is this really where the SBC is headed? They now have even less credibility in my book than they did just yesterday, which wasn't much.

Please forgive my spelling errors: I meant "Borders" not bordes, and "Long run" not lon run.

Is it right to be dishonest when preaching Christ's gospel? No. Will underground activities (which are obviously now being made public, and will most certainly come to China's attention) help the Chinese government to one day allow unrestricted practice of Christianity within their bordes. Again, no. In the lon run, millions more souls will be PREVENTED from hearing about Jesus because these missionaries couldn't sit still long enough. We sacrificed millions for a small few.

That is unbelievable news. Wow, what is happening out there? And to think that some of this is going on in ministry settings. If church can't be a place of holiness and refuge from worldly behaviors, then where ought we to go? I'm saddened.

I for one, will vote for Obama if McCain chooses Huckabee. Don't want Romney either though.

Wait- let me clarify. I realize that my first post sounds a bit stupid. Of course financial incentives are needed for a career, one has to put food on the table. I meant financial incentives to get churches to get youth thinking in that direction.

I agree with you fishaofmen. The need for financial incentives does not paint a very encouraging picture for the future of ministry as a career.

As much as I detest conservative talk radio (and I really mean detest), I cannot stand for such a blatant violation of American's right to free speech. There is NO way that Al Franken will be subjected to having to allow conservative voices on his show. This will not work both ways, and I am sorely dissappointed in the Democratic Party for supporting this. I will continue to research this, but as of now, I will not be voting Democrat until I get to the bottom of this and figure out why they would ever support such a thing.

Well, I suppose we all saw this coming. Let's all prepare for another decade of membership decline in the PC(USA). I wonder if there will be enough people left in the denomination after 10 more years to actually allow it to function.
Thank you bigtex. I appreciate your explanation.
Only 5,000 voters? Does this mean that only 5,000 delegates attended the convention, or are there certain delegates who vote and they comprise a bloc of 5,000 voters. Could an SBC member explain this for me, because wow, if only 5,000 delegates showed up I think there are some real problems in the convention.

Believe me, I'm no friend of the ACLU, but I think the school did overstep it's boundaries here. I mean, just think how we would all react if the students were taken out of class to recieve a free copy of the Quran, Tao de ching, Uphanishads, or the witnesses' "new world translation". Nobody would stand for that. It would never fly to simply state: "you don't have to accept it if you don't want it"....
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
