Just because things happen by chance doesn't mean God can't use them to his purpose. I think the thought about making "a real time meaningful witness to a nonChristian nation" does mean helping the country in practical ways. The churches are always the first to respond to disasters anywhere in the world.

Jesus doesn't rescue us from God. He rescues us from sin and the Devil.
