Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)

Christians are afraid to educate themselves because they think knowledge is a sin. They believe anyone who understands modern biology will go to hell, so they play it safe and try to be as ignorant as they possibly can.
It's impossible to reason with people like that for the same reason it's impossible to reason with Muslim terrorists. The only solution is to kill the terrorists, and point and laugh at the cowardly creationists.

"Remember - eternity is an awfully long time to be wrong."
TORTURE THREAT. The creationist has no evidence for his childish belief in magic, so he threatens torture. Typical Christian.

Christians spread lies about modern biology because they're afraid of it. They're terrified of reality.

"<<The truth is we are just part of nature, no better and no worse than any other creature.>> An amazing and scary statement."
Why do you think reality is something to be afraid of?

mtgburrell, that's the first time anyone has accused me of being sensible and articulate. Thanks very much.
schumacr wrote: "You're assuming the atheist stance: kill God, and then man becomes God, the body becomes the soul (your reductionism), and time becomes eternity (because this life is all there is...) Makes me shudder."
Kill God? How does anyone kill an imaginary magic fairy?
Then man becomes God? No, people are just one of the modern ape species. It's the creationists who think the human species is a big deal. The truth is we are just part of nature, no better and no worse than any other creature.
The soul? What the heck is that?
"(because this life is all there is...) Makes me shudder."
Does reality frighten you?

schumacr wrote "And those laws came from where? 'Magically' from nowhere? Certainly not a Lawgiver, right...?"
I'm not sure what you're talking about, but it sounds like you are invoking your magic god fairy for something. You call your magician a "Lawgiver". Perhaps you think natural processes couldn't exist without your fairy inventing those processes.
If that's what you meant, that makes no sense. For example there's gravity. It didn't need an inventor. There's the formation of solar systems. No magic man required. There's natural selection. That's just how the world works. No fairy required to invent it.
Christians and other religious extremists like to pretend their invisible friend was necessary for something, but that's only wishful thinking and wild guessing, usually combined with a total ignorance of science.

This comment I wrote disappeared for some reason. I'm going to publish it again right here. Apparently some people agreed with me because it got nine thumbs up. Here it is:

A Mississippi lawmaker has introduced a bill that would require textbooks to include a disclaimer describing evolution as a "controversial theory" and advising students to keep an "open mind" to other explanations for the origin of life.
There is no controversy about the basic facts of evolutionary biology in the scientific community. Every single competent biologist in the world loves evolution.
Rep. Gary Chism knows nothing about science. He should shut up and let biology teachers do their jobs. It's not fair to students who love science to have some uneducated politician dumb down science education just because he would become mentally disturbed if he knew humans were not magically created to be separate from the rest of nature.

PhatDajuan, I read that article by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson a long time ago. I'm a big fan of Neil deGrasse Tyson. He's a genius and a great promoter and teacher of science. Neil deGrasse Tyson and President Obama are my two favorite African Americans. I wish Obama would put Tyson in his Cabinet.
I'm glad to see all the pro-science comments here. The evolution deniers are outnumbered. That's unusual for a Christian blog. Most Christians are terrified of evolutionary biology.
The Mississippi lawmaker who thinks evolution is a "controversial theory" doesn't know what he's talking about. Scientists and only scientists should make decisions about science education. Uneducated politicians shouldn't be allowed to say anything about it.
In another backward state, Texas, the state board of education is voting on scientific facts, and what these scientifically illiterate imbeciles vote for is taught to thousands of students. It's an insane way to write science curriculums. They should let scientists make these decisions.

wadems, you forgot to mention these people believe dinosaurs and humans were magically created to live together at the same time. They believe the Flintstones cartoons are real. I wonder if these people drool.

The establishment clause is an extremely simple concept, but some people can't understand anything. Or perhaps they think they're so special they can ignore the constitution.

What has Rep. Gary Chism contributed to biology? I'd be surprised if he knew how spell biology, yet he thinks he's qualified to tell biology teachers how to do their jobs. Sorry, but brain-dead uneducated scientifically illiterate politicians are not qualified to say anything about science curriculums.

They are also known as people who have actually contributed something important to biology. They work at places like MIT and Harvard, not Bible colleges, and not Christian creationist organizations like the Discovery Institute.

I said "Every single COMPETENT BIOLOGIST in the world loves evolution."
Notice the words "competent" and "biologist". These are people who know what they're talking about. They are also known as people who are not insane.

"advising students to keep an "open mind" to other explanations for the origin of life."
The problem is there is only one scientific explanation for the diversity of life and that scientific explanation is evolution. All alternative explanations are religious ideas. Rep. Gary Chism wants to convert every Mississippi biology classroom into a Sunday school.
Biologists don't tell Sunday school teachers to teach evolution. Religious extremists have a lot of nerve to tell biology teachers to teach magical creation.

Jtrain120183, you would be the first person to complain if somebody handed out free copies of the Koran or the God Delusion to public school students at a public school. Our schools can't be used to promote any religion or non-religion. That's what the Establishment Clause is all about. It's not discrimination. It's respecting our constitution.

That's the establishment clause. Respect it or go live in Iran.

"The decision to deny access to community groups that are religious in nature is censorship and bias."
Wrong. Respecting the Establishment Clause of our constitution is not censorship. People can't give away Bibles at a public school for the same reason they can't give away the Koran at public schools. Our government and our government schools can't be used by anyone to promote their religion. This is what makes America different from theocracies like Iran.

I also noticed Obama accepts the facts of evolution. He probably laughs at creationists.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
