My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.

Odd that this article doesnt mention sin at all. Isnt this the reason that God sent his Son to die for us on the cross? Here is the amazing love of God that He loved us first and died for us while we were yet sinners.

Getting rid of our fears of losing world things is NOT the reason Christ came into this world. It is to reconcile us, sinful/rebellious men, to God through His sacrifice on the cross, that whosoever believes in Him might have eternal life.

It is all about God and His glorious fulfillment of His eternal purpose through the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Happy easter to all!

Easter: Gods answer to 'How can a Holy God justify sinful man?".

He made Him (Christ) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Easter is all about what God did through Christ to save sinful men like me. A perfect time to glory in the cross of Christ, on which the price of glory died, Christ for man the creatures sin, love so amazing and love so divine, demands my life, my soul and my all. Lets not confuse Gods glorious display of his love and justice as something we can use to fulfill our purposes and desires.

God doesnt want us to be afraid? Afraid of what?
1Jn 4: 17-18 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

The fear John talks about is the fear of judgement, not fear/worry of losing worldly things. All those outside of Christ are under the wrath of God, children of disobedience. Hence their need for a Saviour/Redeemer/Mediator.

Christianity teaches Christ and Him crucified - the gospel. Many people confuse the golden rule with the gospel. Isnt it precisely because we cannot love God and our neighbor (which is the essense of the law) as we should that Christ came and paid the penalty of our sins. I like what Gresham Machen has to say in his book 'Christianity and liberalism' about the golden rule being for the saved and not for the unsaved. It is only after we are we are saved by grace that we learn how to love God and our neighbor and that itself is a result of grace.

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

It say 'such WERE some of you' - meaning those in Christ do not willfully continue in them.

a church has 'it' - how do we know? - according to him - the church grows. - so wat is 'it'? - 'It has a lot to do with the Holy Spirit, Groeschel believes, but that's not everything' - something other than the Holy Spirit? - now i know that the bible says it is the Holy Spirit that saves and grows a church. to say that it is something else is unbiblical.
didnt Christ say that he is with us forever? doesnt matter we are in a church that has 'it' or doesnt.

    i dont like 'IT'.

He says: 'If you don't have it, you can get it. If you have it, you can lose it' - 'it' isnt God or Christ. You dont loose 'it' or get 'it' if 'it' is Christ. as far as i understand it, 'it' is something related to church growth using human wisdom.

  • Theologians: Why Does God Allow Suffering?

    Thu Apr 24, 2008 5:09 pm Agree: 0   Disagree: 0

    chk555,
the question is about the existence/non-existence of God. It isnt about how wrong suffering is. suffering when brought about by fellow humans is wrong. the question then becomes why would a loving God allow people to suffer at others hands or even during say calamities or why would He being sovereign decree something like that? scripture gives many reasons why God allows us to suffer. it can be used to increase our faith, to punish some, etc etc. but whatever the reason, Gods purpose is fulfilled even when it seems unfair. we need to remember that his ways arent our ways and his thoughts arent our thoughts. the way i would look at it is
    a) there is God
    b) He is holy, just and good
    c) so whenever people suffer He has a good enough reason to allow it to happen

To say that suffering precludes the existence of God assumes that both the concepts are mutually exclusive. God himself says that those He loves He chastises. So i can see how a loving God can allow His children to suffer and the concepts of suffering and his existence in this case arent mutually exclusive. how can one assume that both these concepts are mutually exclusive? any thoughts on this?

suffer? in what way is the anglican church suffering? it isnt something the world has inflicted on them but rather they brought it upon themselves by departing from scripture. just sitting there "praying" while the church rots because they want to avoid dealing with contentious issues isnt going to solve anything. we need to pray that God would open their eyes and gives them a repentant heart. this call to prayer, seems to me, the Archbishops idea of avoiding the issues that are destroying the Anglican church. and the longer he waffles the worse it is going to get.

  • Christians Reject Taboo on Hot Sex in Marriage

    Fri Apr 18, 2008 3:30 pm Agree: 4   Disagree: 1

    Hebrews 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Galatians 5: But IF ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall NOT inherit the kingdom of God.

To be under grace doesnt mean we throw out everything. It only means that the law of God can condemn those who are in Christ no more. But because we have the law (moral) written in our hearts we do as is pleasing to the Lord.

You asked - what is the spirit that motivates someone to have sex prior to marriage? - the spirit of disobedience and rebellion definitely NOT the Spirit of God.

  • Saudi Arabia Leader Calls for Interfaith Dialogue

2027 No one can merit the initial grace which is at the origin of conversion. Moved by the Holy Spirit, we can merit for ourselves and for others all the graces needed to attain eternal life, as well as necessary temporal goods.

when one is justified he is promised eternal life. john 3:16. we do NOT need any other grace(s) to attain it because the free gift of God is itself eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • Saudi Arabia Leader Calls for Interfaith Dialogue

    akonda »
    Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:52 pm Agree: 0   Disagree: 0

2010 Since the initiative belongs to God in the order of grace, no one can merit the initial grace of forgiveness and justification, at the beginning of conversion. Moved by the Holy Spirit and by charity, we can then merit for ourselves and for others the graces needed for our sanctification, for the increase of grace and charity, and for the attainment of eternal life. Even temporal goods like health and friendship can be merited in accordance with God's wisdom. These graces and goods are the object of Christian prayer. Prayer attends to the grace we need for meritorious actions
2011 The charity of Christ is the source in us of all our merits before God. Grace, by uniting us to Christ in active love, ensures the supernatural quality of our acts and consequently their merit before God and before men. The saints have always had a lively awareness that their merits were pure grace.

as per the RCC there is a distinction between initial grace and sanctifying grace. while we cant merit the initial grace we can however merit sanctifying grace. grace according to scripture is the free gift of God to us and that gift is our forensic justification in Christ. As such, to be justified means to be legally declared righteous not to actually be made righteous. And baptism has nothing to confer this grace of God upon us. romans4 tells us that by putting our trust in Christ just as Abraham did we are justified before God not because we did something to merit it but because we put our faith in Christ.
What the RCC says is that though no one deserves to be saved yet once God initiates it (initial grace which we dont deserve) we can cooperate with Him and merit additional grace. Scripture makes no such distinctions in grace. It clearly differentiates justification and sanctification. Both dont mean the same thing. Justification is a one time deal whereas sanctification goes on for a lifetime. The only thing that we can do is point to Christ. not what our hands have done but what Christ has done is what is going to save us.
