Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
os, excellent post on a very difficult matter and I believe I agree with you 110% on the role of women in the local church. That God's Word does not forbid them to preach or teach but not to take on a role that automatically gives them spiritual headship over men. And there are very few roles such as the Senior Pastor and Elder and in some churches based on their definition of Deacon, a Deacon a...more

Considering I now live in Appalachia and lived in Europe for close to 8 years and in Taiwan for 2 years and have visited Isreal and several other Asian countries and have lived in several different states, I'd say I have had plenty of experience not only in learning about other people and cultures but being a part of their lives and culture on a 24/7 basis. So I really don't need nor have any desire to waste my time watching some overdramatized television show or movie. Plus, growing up in the city of Rochester I know quite a bit about city living already.less
JB, totally true the sexual practices of homosexuality are not primarily what Paul is speaking to in Romans 1:18-31. What he is speaking to are the consequences that have happened since the sin of Adam and Eve. How they bought satan's lie that they could be like God, they could be God and how mankind has bought that same lie time and time again and turned from worshipping God to worshiiping idol...more

What he is speaking to are the consequences that have happened since the sin of Adam and Eve. How they bought satan's lie that they could be like God, they could be God and how mankind has bought that same lie time and time again and turned from worshipping God to worshiiping idols with the primary form of idol worship being the worship of self. And as a result God has allowed the consequences of this sin to take place which has given birth to a number of other forms of sin the include the sexual practices of homosexuality which God condemns regardless of the context they are engaged in.less

al, we don't agree on much but on this one we agree 110%! While it is very disrespectful and uncalled for, the burning of any book considered holy by any group of people in no way justifies the cold-blooded murder of anyone let alone these UN workers who had no association with this Pastor, his church, and who I don't even believe had any American citizens among them.
sm, are you saying a divorced and remarried person should never again be allowed in a ministry role? But what if a person repents and confesses of their sin and makes reconciliation with their former spouse as much as feasible, could they take on a ministry role again?
gd, there is absolutely no excuse for what this mob did and especially since the people they murdered in cold blood were not in anyway associated with this pastor or his church and I don't even believe any of them were American citizens. They were UN workers! It reminds me of the riots after the Rodney King verdict back in the 90s. So are you saying the jurors were as responsible for the damage...more

wJ, Paul did not argue against marriage but simply stated with regards to doing ministry that being single would be more beneficial to effectively doing ministry in his day. But all one has to do is read Ephesians 5 to see the importance Paul put on marriage and the family.
JB, nope, Exodus realizes as God's Word clearly teaches that we are all born with a sin nature and are all separated from God because of sin and if we would repent of our sin and turn to God by putting our complete faith/trust in the person and finished work of Christ alone we will become a child of God and are immediately indwelt by God's Holy Spirit who is willing to change us into the person Go...more

wJ, the problem is that passage starts at verse 18 and not verse 20 and it speaks of man turning from worshipping God to worshipping idols with the primary form of idal worship being the worship of self. And it is not just speaking to idol worship in Rome but to all idol worship since the sin of Adam and Eve which was that they bought satan's lie that they could be like God, they could be God. And it is not just speaking to idol worship in Rome but to all idol worship since the sin of Adam and Eve which was that they bought satan's lie that they could be like God, they could be God. Plus, are you saying that all the other forms of sin listed in that passage are just limited to Rome as well? If so then are you not simply promoting situational ethics which says what is sin for you is not sin for me which once again is totally contrary to God's truth as found in God's Word?less
sb, in the North Country of New York we had both Amish and Mennonites who had their own businesses such as furniture stores and construction companies. But while the Amish are opposed to any modern appliances the Mennonites vary on how many they use.
gd, my bad on the partial birth abortion issue as I was reading articles prior to 2007 Supreme Court ruling. But as for Margaret Sanger, if you want to believe she was not a racist and in favor of eugenics with regards to the black community that is your decision, but you do a great disservice to the black community by doing so.
AUM, to be hoest there is no clear biblical support that says those who have not reached the age of accountability will go to heaven but there are several passages that appear to teach that. They are Deuteronomy 1:35 and 1:39, II Samuel 1:23, and Matthew 18:3-6 and 19:14.
