  • Surveys Reveal 'Widely Divergent' Views of Religious U.S. Activists

The last article I read before this one was about how an estimated 1,000 of our brothers and sisters in Christ have died at the hands of Islamic fanatics in Nigeria in the last month. See: Jesus can turn persecutors into those who are persecuted for him.

The comments I read here make me ashamed to be an American Christian. Why are our people here so near sighted and self absorbed? Calling each other names over political paries and ideas. Why is this such an interesting article? There is no commission in the scripture to try and seize political power or try and change unbelievers culture or dictate to them what is right. This goes out to both sides. We are not called to make disciples by passing laws but by following Christ ourselves and obeying his commands. Do any of the people who rail at each other back and forth even know what the command of Jesus is? Wasn't it something that had to do with loving his people? What was it that Jesus said would distinguish his disciples? Wasn't it something along the lines of "they will know you by your love for one another."

As there is another that tells us to remember those who suffer as though you suffer with them. Nothing about the evils or virtues of government healthcare, nothing even about democracy, definetly nothing that should lead us to believe that it is our job to try and teach or legislate right and wrong to the unbelievers. "what is it to me to judge outsiders" Copnsidering the way that we are neglecting our brothers and sisters all over the world while we busy ourselves with things that have nothing to do with Christ's kingdom, I would say that if God felt he could trust some of his people in some part of the world with authority to make decisions for others western Christians wouldn't be at the top of the list.

That pastor from Nigeria is right, every church in the west should give money to help support the persecuted church. Of course, the obstacle to that is to get them to stop arguing over what is the best way to make a disciple without showing someone Jesus, and to get them to consider that they don't know what it is all about.

Lord, help us to love one another. That we may be one as you and the Father are one.

  • Priest Risks Life for Churchless Christians in Egypt

All of Christ's body everywhere should be praying for and suffering with those believers in Egypt and other places where there is real persecution. This is obvious from scripture, why do so many waste time with other things that are not as important as "remembering those who suffer as if we were suffering with them" is beyond me. I will be praying for the persecuted church in Egypt tonight. God bless you, hany, and thank you for your faithfullness.

Thanks for the note about Saudi Arabia's ban on churches. I didn't know that. I knew they were hostile to Christianity and that many of the jihadist and their ideals come from Saudi Arabia but I didn't know there was a legal ban against Christians meeting. Interesiting that Qatar only has two churches though almost 20% of their population is Christian. That is a lot of Christians without a church. But I imagine that they find support in their relationships with other Christians that can largely fill the same void.

Wow, they're tools of Obama. If they care about providing health care they should band together and do it themselves. Why are they pushing the churches responsibility onto the government? Right now christians who are "right" and "left" are arguing about what the U.S. government is doing. Why? The heresy of Constantine continues.

Scripture is clear that homosexuality is not an alternative lifestyle for christians or anyone who hopes to enter the kingdom of God, it is also clear that christians are not to judge those outside of the church. And christians are to speak on behalf of those who suffer injustice, like children who are picked on because they talk with a lisp, have been tricked into thinking they are gay or act funny because they were molested. Any accusation of christians as bullys should be immediately laughable. Sadly many call themselves christians but show less compassion and understanding than people of what truly is a perverted and corrupt american culture.
There is a third way. It is not condoning homosexuality and it is not condoning abuse directed at homosexuals. Homosexuality is incompatable with christianity but so is indifference to bullying. Maybe the day of silence or whatever should include a time of prayer for the victims of violence.

Why are the most commented stories always those about homosexuality. 5 out of 7 at the moment, but stories about the persecution that christians are facing at this moment all over the world go by with little comment and presuambly little attention by american christians. What did paul say to the corinthians? He said what business is it of ours what those who are outside of the church do? But those in the church are the ones that we should correct. So if a bunch of unbelievers want to go the way of soddom, that's there business. Churches need to speak the truth of scripture, homosexuality is a sin and not an alternative lifestyle. But it is not for us to try and tell unbelievers how they should live their lives. Dobson did alot of good things, but I hope focus on the family will do that, focus on the family of God and quit trying to lead people down a path of righetoussness that they don't want to go down.

Someone should just go and do it anyway. A survey of the extent of government oppresion is not something that one expects to be welcomed by a government that practices oppression. If you want to find out you have to do it without asking for permission.

He's right, we can't make people good by making it a law to be or do good. We actually have to love life into people, we can't just tell them how they should live. This is really about laziness, people don't want to love the prostitutes, they want to pass and enforce laws about prostitution, thinking that is how you end prostitution and change lives. Loving and building a life giving relationship with the prostitute, or homosexual who has never seen a viable christian witness, would take way too much time.

It is wise of him to avoid being demonized by the media as a homophobe or hatemonger, which is what everyone who thinks homosexuality is wrong is labeled as. And he is right about his mission. Kudos to him for not gettting involved in the campaign behind this proposition, and thinking that legislation is the key to people's hearts or that legislation is how we are going to bring the kingdom of God and life.

Making people pray is not exactley the type of thing Jesus went around and supported, especially when it is, as Rhi points out, just a ceremonious thing. Those who are graduating and want to take the time to thank God and ask him for direction for their future shouldn't have a hard time in arranging a special function for that purpose. And there they will be able to focus on God with those of like mind without having to be scared of offending those who don't want to participate.
