  • Do We Need Another Reformation?

One of the many problems facing Christianity , is seen in the comment by DRJ . The only apparent expression of love for other people that is necessary , seems to be having told them about "God's love through his Son , Jesus." Nothing else in the way of loving your neighbour is required , apparently. And if one doesn't embrace this statement on their say-so , they are subject to on the spot judgement and condemnation. And.....so often those 'spreading the word' are the most unpleasant and onjectionable people ever.

  • Christians Urged Not to Abandon Conscience; Proclaim the Gospel

" A preliminary report commissioned by the nation's Roman Catholic bishops on the roots of the clergy sex abuse scandal found no evicence that gay priests are morelikely than heterosexual clergy to molest children , the lead authors of the study said Tuesday."
We could have told them that a long time ago , but being hell bent on further denigrating homosexual persons ; the senior clergy jumped to their unsubstantiated conclusions , and have damaged the reputations of an entire segment of humanity.

Flagged as inappropriate. show I will wish some people a Very Merry Christmas and others I'll wish them ; Happy Holidays. IF I thought that anyone I encounter working in the retail indistry were greeting me with a 'Merry Christmas' on instructions from a religious dictatorship , with threats of a boycott and absolutely no understanding of what the spirit of Christmas is all about ; I'd make an issue of it that would endure long after the mistletoe came down. To express the sentiment that "you'd better wish your customers Merry Christmas' , or we'll organize a boycott of your business, is a stencjh in the nose of all that is good and decent. hide

  • Report: 18 Percent of White Evangelicals Support Health Care Bills

That only 18% of conservative Christians support healthcare for all God's children , marks a defining moment for their overall view of goodness and compassion. It is beyond belief that so many people do not realize that the core concepts of liberty and justice for all , were liberal in nature. Conservative thinking is the guiding principle behind the most brutal regimes on the planet , like many of the Muslim countries who view western freedom and self determination as decadent. This blatant absence of compassion and understanding what is at stake , goes a long way towards explaining why only 13% of Oklahoma high school students were able to name the nation's first president.

If Jesus of Nazareth were to return to Earth tomorrow morning around 1000 hours , somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon line , conservative Christians would be so disgusted with his liberal compassion ; they would be turning him over to the INS by noon !!

Significant correction of a religiously inspired lie : Rev. Boission was not fined or taken before a Canadian Human Rights Council for speaking his religious views on homosexual persons. It couldn't happen.Period. Freedom of religion is covered by the Charter. What happened is as follows :during an interview with a British Columbian news journalist , he was emphatic that government authorities suppress Canadian homosexuals , using any means necessary . This spells violence. And you can't encourage violence against any group or individual , under Canadian law. We are a secular democracy , and for purposes of extending rights and responsibilities to each and every citizen-taxpayer ; the contents of the Bible or any other faith oriented policy and procedure manual ; are irrelevant. Religion is based on faith ; not facts.Gays are facts , full citizens , and are entitled to human and civil rights , and the respect owed to any human being. I suspect that religious conservatives eat a lot of British beef , as they do not understand these simple facts , and try to convince themselves they are victims In reality , they ARE victims , but not of what they think they are. Gene transplants can't come soon enough , for those poor souls whose learning propensities are limited by self imposed blinders.

  • Ministry Aims to End L.A. Homelessness by 2019

I've lived in southern California (San Diego) , and I know LA well. I'm being truthful when I say I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the article outlining the aim to deall effectively with the shame of homelessness by this religious group. Most Christian groups in the state (particularly Orange County) might well be apoplectic that they aren't devoting the bulk of their resources to the denigration of homosexual persons and sparing no effort in denying and/or eliminating their rights. My God , this group in Los Angeles are planning something that , ...well, ....Christ himself would do.

The implications of such injustice go far beyond just religious discrimination. This , and inevitably other such incidents in Pakistan , against non-Muslims , are fomented not just by religious zealots , but by officials of the government , i.e. police . But most significantly , this is a country with nuclear weapons. Pakistan will forever require our undivided attention.

It is mind boggling that 'faith leaders' anywhere are issuing a statement on climate change. Conservative Christians have dismissed the reality of global warming for years. It is the equivalent of theologians issuing a statement on new surgical techniques in cardio-vascular surgery. There ain't no connection ! What on earth qualifies the religious right to assess a subject that belongs to climatology?

To quote Sam Harris , journalist ; " Religion is the one area of our discourse in which people are systematically protected from the demand to give good evidence and valid arguments in defense of their strongly held beliefs." This proposal by the UN would serve only to stifle any questioning of the more conservative elements of most religions and all of Islam.

It is sad to see America lose forever its position as being the torch bearer for liberty , equality , and justice. And it is all attributable to the actions and rhetoric of conservative Christians. Most telling is this rent revelation : Considering Oklahoma to be the figurative 'buckle' of the 'Bible belt' in America ; a recent US history quiz was given to Oklahoma high school students. It is the same one , apparently given to hopeful immigrants. A full 73% of students could not name the first president of the USA. No wonder it has been so easy for the religious right to falsify and revise American history.

  • Orthodox Anglican Leader: Choice is Between Life and Death

There is obviously entrenched bigotry at work , destroying informed free speech as evidenced by the flagging of most of the posts by 'homosexual man'. I do not have any idea who he is , but have read the flagged posts and find them to be entirely appropriate , even if one disagrees.
Meanwhile , it is beneath contempt for this so-called orthodox Anglican leader to use an expression like "life or death" in voicing his self evident hatred of homosexual persons. From a Canadian viewpoint, for those espousing such a blanket dismissal of an entire segment of humanity ( human lives , remember?), their sense of patriotism and loyalty to our established system of liberty and equality within a secualr democracy ; is certainly called into question. If the Bible were to be our principle source of law , the enforcement of the Old Testament edicts alone ; would have blood flowing in the streets.

Flagged as inappropriate. show It is mind boggling to read comments that state homosexuals have no business sending comments to a Christian website like this one. Homosexual persons are the one group most denigrated and villified on Christian websites.Conservative Christians would relegate homosexuals to nothingness , with no access to secular , or constitutional rights whatsoever. And they would do so based on the ethereal ; or - religious beliefs. And once again , the opposition to same-sex marriage has nothing to do with matrimony , and everything to do with the irrational opposition to the very existence of homosexuals. hide

I am not a drag queen , nor do i know any , but they must be recognized as a legitimate form of entertainment with rots going back centuries. The origins of 'female impersonators', was Christianity. This is simple history. Women were never allowed to appear on stage , therefore any female parts had to be played by men. This includes , of course , the greatest and most enlightened works of the English language , by William Shakespeare.

Prop 8 was the moral equivalent of putting segregation before the voters of 1950's Alabama , wherein the outcome would have been self evident. It is not the first time laws have been enacted to assure the denial of rights and dignity to entire segments of America's humanity , and marks an abysmal period in areas of civil and human rights. America has lost forever ; its claim to be at the forefront of respect for the rights of individuals , and the progress of scientific endeavours ; with the corruption of the real-science objectives of such previously renowned entities as the Centre for Diseaese Control in Atlanta.
