....and I have no idea who the Jerrys, Georges, and Howards are, but they are *not* me. If you google cevink, you will find a multitude of things I have written in other forums. I am a regular at Biblelandstudios.com and the forum debates on Origins and evolution. Of course, I think my myspace page kinda proves that I am me, or that I am at least pretending *really* hard.

You guys kill me. Interesting & fun Kevin facts:

I was a pentecostal christian, 4 years as a matter of fact. I left the faith after my pastor gave a sermon claiming he had raised the dead...it was too much for my 13 year old mind to grasp.

I am currently single, but in Star/Patty's case I would demand supermodel looks and an unrivaled cooking ability to make up for the plethora of stupid. If you rate yourself a 9.5 or better and can cook like Emeril, hit me up on myspace (www.myspace.com/cevink)

...I understand the differences between us, you believe and I don't. Other than that, we might be remarkably similar.

You guys need a new term to demonize all of the reasonable people who believe that evolution is the scientific explanation for [yadda yadda yadda]...."Evolutionist" doesn't cut it. How about something like "EVOLUTION-ISTA?" or Imperial Evos? Maybe "Islamocommievolushahomos"?

You can always throw a few adjectives in front too, like "Godless [yadda yadda]" or "Heathen [yadda yadda]".

Let me attempt to expound on the quite satisfactory answer to the origin of NeoDarwinism, as it highlights the fact that nobody in the scientific community "blindly" believes whatever Mr. Darwin espoused in The Origin of Species. Darwin didn't have the ample evidence provided by genetics, so his theory was based on hereditary pangenesis, which was SCIENTIFICALLY DISCREDITED due to the lack of evidence to support that aspect. Later, through genetic research, we discovered that the actual function relating to the transmission of hereditary characteristics from parent organisms to their children was carried out through Mendelian inheritance. The theory was updated and improved, which is something that could never happen with Intelligent Design, due to the utter lack of any observable evidence whatsoever.

as evidenced here, it always seems the ID crowd loves to change the subject or create distractions when all the fallacious arguments run out...

First of all, you are responding to agentorangex's post...not mine. Hard to hold a valid debate with someone who isn't sure which posts are written by me, but I will attempt to refute you anyway. Let me reiterate; an argument based on "This many people believe X, so it must be true" is fallacious (ie. argumentum ad populum) and an argument made stating "Person X believed Y, so it must be true" is also not logically sound (ie. argumentum ad verecundiam) because it doesn't matter what a person believes if they are not an expert at the subject at hand. The Beatles might believe the Fed should cut interest rates on long term loans...but it doesn't matter because the Beatles are not experts in fiduciary matters and I doubt Bernake will listen to their opinion. Darwin's religious beliefs are not pertinent to our discussion here.

Let me play Devil's advocate (go ahead and have as much fun as you like with that one...I'll wait....) and accept your invalid points, and then make a few invalid observations of my own. Have you heard about the petition that was signed by 1000 scientists in favor of teaching ID/creationism along with evolution? They found 1000 "scientists" to sign this petition and it took the better part of a year, but the ID crowd happily pointed to it as validation of ID/creationism...UNTIL mainstream science responded with a petition of it's own; they got 1000 scientists NAMED STEVE to sign a petition stating that ID was unscientific nonsense. Here's a little argumentum ad verecundiam for you: the POPE admitted evolution was very real and the framed it as the tool God uses to enact His will. Again, a useless argument because the pope doesn't know evolution from microwave popcorn...but since you like informal fallacies SO MUCH, I thought I would bring it to your attention.

I don't believe I am superior to you in any way except for possibly being better at applying logic, I'm sure there are areas where you might well outshine me....this just doesn't happen to be one of them. =)

.what I am claiming is that:

    A. not only is evolution the superior hypothesis to explain the origin of life and species...

    B. It is the *only* scientific hypothesis to do so.

now, I'm not sure just what you imply with "your claims of superiority betray you", but I can assure you that ad hominem attacks do not make an argument or even a valid point.

I don't think any of us "follow" Darwin....we just acknowledge that he is the first person to figure out that/how different species evolved to what they are today. If you have a better explanation that includes testable hypothesis, please do share it.

What you are making is a fallacious argument; appeal to authority (informal), as the founding fathers are *not* experts on evolution or any related field. Even Darwin believing in God makes no difference because theology is not Darwin's strength. I doubt any supporters of ID/Creationism can make anything *but* a fallacious argument, since none of them have any proof of anything they claim.

    Tarzan,

You are making so many fallacious arguments that it is hard to keep up, but your siting of US National polls is irrelevant. That is called "argumentum ad populum" or "an appeal to the bandwagon". It makes no difference how many people believe/do not believe in something....truth is truth and is not subject to a vote. We can prove our truth and *have* in the lab...microevolution is proof of macroevolution to a certain degree, and while we have not *seen* macroevolution because it happens over hundreds to thousands of years.

Here is *irrefutable* proof: genetic similarity. Modern genetics has shown that there is very little difference between humans and our closest relatives (99% similarity with chimpanzees, 97% with mice [the exact numbers vary according to the source])....do you think that is coincidental? Or maybe that is because we all evolved from a common ancestor. What about cats? Anyone can look at a housecat and see a resemblance to a jaguar, ocelot, lion, or tiger...if you examine the genes, the proof becomes clear.

oh my, sooooo many flaws in this poorly fact-checked piece of wishful thinking. If this is the best that the ID/creationist crowd can do, get used to your ideas being relegated to the confines of uber-fundie webloids. This movie can no more convince your average joe that life was created by a flying spaghetti monster than it can convince a majority of Americans that the sun revolves around the earth...an idea, which to my knowledge, you might still hold dear.

ah...marking posts as inappropriate; the last refuge of someone who cannot make a logical argument for ID/creationism/unprovable nonsense. The prosecution rests.
