Blacks *were* infected by syphilis, without their knowledge in a study by the U.S. Public Health Service in the years 1932-1972. It is called the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male. That is what the Reverend Wright was referring to when he said the US Government “purposely infect[ing] African American men with syphilis” . It is not a good chapter of American History, but it is one that every Christian should be familiar with.

Judge Sotomayor ruled in favor of the "Mexico City Policy" and against a pro-choice group in her only big abortion decision. See the CBN news article here: http://blogs.cbn.com/thebrodyfile/archive/2009/05/26/sotomayors-abortion-ruling.aspx
She has also received judicial appointments from both republicans (Bush I) and democrat presidents (Clinton).
She is not extremely pro-choice, so my initial impression, based on her experience and achievements is that Obama made a good choice.
I don't mind hugs.

2centsworth - I am glad that you are not defending torture and American foreign policy.
Jesus believed in loving your enemies even if they wanted to hurt you or the people you love. Jesus's teachings are radically opposed to torture, and radically supportive of all human beings being blessed and saved through him.
It is horrible that 60% of Evangelical Christians answered the survey the way that they did. They are not thinking in the same way that Jesus does.

Jesus says that the love we have for each other will be a testimony to the world. I agree that we should not let politics divide us or keep us from loving and being united with each other. This whole thing is about making Jesus Lord, not about making somebody the president of the United States. That is a side issue.

I would suggest that we look at historical weather data rather than asking pastors about whether the temperature of the world is going up or down. Pastors don't know everything!

I have a great deal of respect for Richard Cizik who take courageous stands for what they believe even when it costs them their jobs. He is a true Jesus follower.

We are sending a confusing message to the world when Christians side with one political party or the other, like Dobson does here. The point of being a Christian is not to believe in the Republican party (which never seriously attempted to illegalize abortion even when they controlled the country) but to believe in Jesus Christ.

It would be stategic for Focus on the Family to appoint a woman to the chairman position.
Its important to remember that the people who got on Jesus's and the Apostle Paul's nerves were not the sinners and tax collectors and the homosexuals but the self righteous teachers of the law, who didn't see that they had all the same problems, just slightly disguised and made culturally acceptable. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God - and Jesus died for all of us whether we are a man married to a man or a man married to a woman or not married at all.
McCain wasn't going to do anything about the abortion issue anyway so I don't understand what all the fuss and tears are about. Obama wants to lower the number of abortions so we can all support him in that goal.

Franklin Graham is now on message. Four years ago, he was not. Four years ago he was sending out recorded messages that everyone should vote for Bush which diluted the gospel. I hope he stays on message - we don't need Republican change or Democratic change. We need God's change.

They say they are 100% effective and its 100% free. Do you think it is worth a try if someone has tried everything else? Please answer right away.
Rowen,
The truth is that we are all sinful and we all need God's love and forgiveness. We all have sinful natures that Jesus gave his life for. Temptation is not sin. We are all tempted. Jesus was tempted by all things but did not sin. I am sure that all ex-gays are sexually tempted to go back, just as all non-gays are sexually tempted. We all need God's mercy and forgiveness which is provided freely in Christ. God loves everyone - and there is power in the Holy Spirit to stop sexually sinning whether that be masturbation, the homosexual act, adultery, or premarital sex.

I agree that Christians should vote but not neccessarily that we should vote for McCain or for Republicans. I am unconvinced that Jesus would be a Republican in today's America. Some Republicans have abandoned morality and social justice. If they return - I might start voting for them again. They should not just assume that they are on God's side when they are not.
Rowan Williams, the archbishop of Canterbury, is not thinking Christianly here. Sharia law means that if you convert and believe in Jesus, you become apostate and liable for extreme punishment under the Moslem law for you and your children. It is not consistant with the Lordship of Christ. It should be not enforced in England, Malaysia, or anywhere else in the world. Believing that it should be is inconsistant with the teachings of Jesus Christ himself, whether or not you believe in the infallibility of Scripture.

This is over the top. Jim Wallis is not pro-gay, he is pro-people and pro-poor. Jesus is pro-gay in the sense that He died for them too. Either the author of this article does not know what he is talking about or he is not coming from a Christian perspective. As I remember, Jim Wallis got criticized as being anti-gay in his book "God's Politics". I am sure that Jim Wallis would agree with you that homosexual sexual encounters are an immoral choice.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
