According to creation ministries there was an ark a few thousand years ago and there were baby dinosaurs on that ark. God put them there.

It takes a very special kind of craziness and gullibility to believe there were dinosaurs who lived a few thousand years ago with people. This belief requires a rejection of almost all of science, and it requires a lifetime avoidance of education.

This is why books like "The God Delusion" have made best-selling lists. These strange anti-science religious ideas like the Noah's Ark myth are destroying our country. America is slowly becoming a backward country. Already we are being laughed at.

The topic of this thread is "Apologists Ask Churches to Step Up Response to Militant Atheism".

Christians are being ridiculed by atheists for a good reason. What Christians need to do instead of complaining about the ridicule, is educate themselves. They need to learn about science. Unfortunately many Christians, instead of educating themselves, are avoiding education. Some Christians are actually attacking education. They are trying to suppress the teaching of evolution, and some Christians are harassing and threatening science teachers. If Christians were to join the 21st century instead of fighting it, there wouldn't be any need for militant atheist books.less

I noticed there are people here who are complaining there's no benefits to understanding evolution, as if evolution is a worthless subject. In a previous comment I quoted a scientist who said "Evolution is the grand unifying theory of biology. It is a solid core running through all modern research from molecular biology to genomics to ecology. Where once biology was a disjointed group of subjects whose main role seemed to be just to classify life into neat categories, it is now at the forefront of scientific research. Indeed, the study of heredity - genetics - is said to be leading mankind into a biotechnological golden age with ever-more potent pharmaceuticals, cleaner fuels and improved crops."

Evolution has no benefits? That's crazy.

Also, what about this benefit: knowledge.

What's wrong with learning about the history of life? The creationists, who blindly believe in Genesis because they were brainwashed to believe it's not a childish made up story, don't know what they're missing. There can be nothing more interesting than the scientific explanation of the diversity of life.

For example, the structure of the chimpanzee brain and the human brain is exactly the same. I just learned this recently. Since we split from the chimps only 5 or 6 million years ago, it makes sense that our brains are so identical. The only difference is our brains evolved to be larger.

There's millions of more interesting things about evolution. The creationists will never learn about any of it.less

I recently saw a good explanation I would like to quote: "The same DNA evidence that criminologists use to put rapists behind bars and make dead-beat dads pay-up can also used to show that chimps and humans share a common ancestor. In fact, the degree of certainty that humans and chimps share a common ancestor is much higher than the degree that courts routinely accept when using DNA evidence in death-row cases."less

The theory of evolution is a staggeringly beautiful and rather clever concept that aims to describe how animals, plants, bacteria and all other living things have adapted, and continue to adapt, to their surroundings. The theory allows mankind to perceive life's history down the eons and understand how and why all living things came to be.

Evolution is the grand unifying theory of biology. It is a solid core running through all modern research from molecular biology to genomics to ecology. I'm not the one rejecting virtually every scientific discovery ever made in the past two centuries. Just the existence of people like Russ Miller is an insult to the hard work of every scientist in the world.

OK, fine. Then no sane person could take him seriously. 6,000 years or 14,000,000,000 years. Quite a difference. Somebody is out of their mind. The scientists have all the evidence. Russ Miller has his wild imagination and his total ignorance of all science.

Yes, that would be nice if somebody actually read the God Delusion and other books that promote reality. I read part of God Delusion in a bookstore. It was a bit boring for me, but I can see how somebody who hasn't been exposed to his ideas might actually learn something. Apparently this book has at least convinced a few people to throw out their indoctrination. Reality is a wonderful and interesting idea. I wonder why more people don't accept reality. Learning about science is much more interesting than constantly lying about it.less

Evolution is one of the big ideas of science and it's by far the most important idea of biology. I noticed this blog is infested with anti-evolution Christians who would love to suppress the teaching of the most important foundation of biology. There's definitely a major war against science going on, and this is the major reason why there are now so many best selling anti-Christian books. Christians should understand it's in their best interest to leave science education alone. They will never win their war against education. They will only scare away their most intelligent members.less
