Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
Thanks Chuck, for putting in all in perspective!

The Church is the institution that God has built on the revelation of Christ (Matt. 16:18); the Church is the body of Christ (Eph. 1:23-23), of which He is the head, and each one is a part of it (I Cor. 12:27). We cannot separate ourselves from the body, as each of us belongs to the other (Rom 12:6). Everything that we do should be for the building up of the body (1 Cor. 14:12, Eph. 4:12-13;15-15). Since the Church is made up of people, it will be imperfect until Jesus comes back. That is why Paul's letters exhort us to live in love, peace, unity (really, read Ephesians!) All of those instructions for Christian living? They are written to the Church, as the Church is the place where we live out our Christian lives--and as we learn to live with and love each other, the world will know that world may belive that Jesus has been sent by the Father (John 17:20-24) We cannot survive without the church any more than a body part would survive if it was cut off from our bodies.

Flagged as inappropriate. show "Worship is not a response to the opening guitar licks of a song, but a response to God's revelation and who He is." I say "amen" to that, but the expression of that worship is going to vary. With CCM, we have to make sure that the lyrics glorify God and build up the church. The lyrics to every song must be understood by the listener and shouldn't be drowned out by the instruments. Otherwise, it's just noise and no one is built up. The congregation has to be able to sing the song, otherwise it's pure entertainment--and no one gets built up. And yes, I am a worship leader and my instrument is guitar. hide

OK, here's one for thought. If Obama says he's a Christian, then why would he invoke the Islamic blessing ("peace be upon them") reserved for dead prophets, when referring to Moses, Jesus and Mohammed? Jesus is the Risen, LIVING, Son of God--at least to Christians, anyway.
From Matthew 19:1-5: "Haven't you read he [Jesus] replied, "that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'?" The Scripture is clear here and in other places.
On the common sense side, look at how men and women are created. In same sex marriage, the "pieces don't fit" and life cannot be conceived. Doesn't that tell us something?

I guess the Toledo 'Free Press' should consider a name change...

Theres just one question here: are pastors (or anyone in the church, for that matter) who are in faithful committed same-gender relationships being faithful to the Lord and the teachings of Scripture? I think not. Heres a word for the ELCA leadership: You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel! (Matt 23:24)
So Rev. Hanson says that that the statement on sexuality "will be concocted on the basis of responses from lay people." Really? How about basing the statement on what the Scriptures teach? The issue of issue of gay clergy and same-sex blessings becomes clear when viewed through the light of Scripture. I find it ironic that ELCA is also going to discuss "biblical literacy" at the same Assembly. How about adding biblical obedience to the agenda? Sola Scriptura!

The farmer in Luke 8 did not worry about what would happen to the seed as he scattered it. We know that some of it will get 'snatched' away, but that shouldn't stop us from sowing the Word of God wherever and whenever we can.
I would challenge any gay rights advocate to search the Scriptures and discover for themselves what God has to say about homosexuality. Then we can dialogue--based on Scripture--not personal feelings.

Why would any Christiian artist allow themselves to be unequally yoked to a project that does not glorify the Lord? While the move was entertaining, it contained no truth and did nothing to promote the Gospel of Christ. The movie takes a thread of truth (the story of Noah's ark) and weaves it into the fabric of a New Age portrayal of God. We have to be careful about the things that we publicly align ourselves with.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
