  • What the Bible Doesn't Say About Sex

Could someone point me to the scripture where the eating of shellfish, wearing blended fabrics etc, is not a sin but really law but the reference in Leviticus to homosexuality is actually sinful? The only scripture I could find was Matthew 5: 17-18 where Jesus said he came to fulfill the law. That seems to rule out all of those passages in Leviticus as being "law" including the one about shellfish...more

  • Creation vs. Evolution – The New Shape of the Debate

2011: I get what you're saying and 99% agree with you but the science was determined long before the Dover trial (interestingly enough, I read a book called Monkey Girl a couple of years ago about the trial and it was fantastic). The Dover trial merely cemented the inanity of ID in the court. In the end, I bet you and I are really just talking about semantics.

Thanks DP! I appreciate the welcome. Work's been nutty and the kids are getting older and I want to spend as much time with them as I can so I've been off line a little more than usual (other than for work of course).

  • Creation vs. Evolution – The New Shape of the Debate

DP: You'll stick with the scientific method? You've proven over and over again that you don't even know what that is. As a matter of fact, you did it in this very reply to Rhi Bran.

  • Creation vs. Evolution – The New Shape of the Debate

Evolution didn't dismiss God, DP, you did. By making a ridiculous claim that evolution is false, you put up one more barrier to those seeking Christ. If someone who has even a basic understanding of evolution thinks Christianity involves a rejection of fact, why would they want anything to do with it?

  • Creation vs. Evolution – The New Shape of the Debate

2011: More importantly, the definition of science disqualified ID - ID by definition is not falsifiable. ID doesn't make positive predictions. Evolution routinely makes lots of predictions which are regularly proven to be true. I'm really kind of tired of even talking to creationists about this because unfortunately creationism is now part of their religious dogma and as such is true no matter what anyone says or how many facts are shown. Most creationists will say as much.less

  • Creation vs. Evolution – The New Shape of the Debate

joannebb: Did you read The Greatest Show on Earth? Based on your response I doubt it. I did and it was wonderful. As a Christian I was glad he refrained from his usual rants about Christian faith in the book. He made it very clear right from the beginning that was not the theme of this book. If you felt there was some "creationist bashing" - please cite it.

  • Creation vs. Evolution – The New Shape of the Debate

DP: Do you see the irony in your reply? While you're right, 2011, is using a political response to a cultural issue, you have all but said you don't understand even the most basic principles of evolution.

  • Creation vs. Evolution – The New Shape of the Debate

Actually, DP, the idea that we are the center of the universe came from early Christians - it was the astronomers who said that wasn't true but religious dogma persisted and unfortunately those some of those scientists were persecuted . . . everything old is new again I guess.

  • Brian McLaren: Christians in Denial Over Evolution of Faith

Hitler wasn't a Catholic - he was born one but didn't receive the sacraments or attend Mass after he was a child and to anyone who is or was a Catholic, that means he wasn't one. He then became or probably more accurately identified as a Protestant.

  • Faith-Healing Couple Convicted in Son's Death

believer: How do you know that group misinterpreted scripture? Because the boy died? Lots of kids died in the Bible and God ordered many of them killed. I'm not saying their interpretation is right (because I believe its 100% wrong) but their misinterpretations don't seem to be any worse than yours (and I'm sure mine in some instances).

  • Colson: Prison Rate Up Due to Moral Breakdown

Actually, we don't really need more prisons. Most of the things people are sent to prison for could be handled in a completely different way that doesn't penalize that person or overburden the tax payers. These three strike drug laws are silly and many of the white collar crooks would serve us better by dedicating those years of their lives to charitable works (instead of 25 years of jail - 25 yea...more

  • Colson: Prison Rate Up Due to Moral Breakdown
