Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
Could someone point me to the scripture where the eating of shellfish, wearing blended fabrics etc, is not a sin but really law but the reference in Leviticus to homosexuality is actually sinful? The only scripture I could find was Matthew 5: 17-18 where Jesus said he came to fulfill the law. That seems to rule out all of those passages in Leviticus as being "law" including the one about shellfish...more

2011: I get what you're saying and 99% agree with you but the science was determined long before the Dover trial (interestingly enough, I read a book called Monkey Girl a couple of years ago about the trial and it was fantastic). The Dover trial merely cemented the inanity of ID in the court. In the end, I bet you and I are really just talking about semantics.
Evolution didn't dismiss God, DP, you did. By making a ridiculous claim that evolution is false, you put up one more barrier to those seeking Christ. If someone who has even a basic understanding of evolution thinks Christianity involves a rejection of fact, why would they want anything to do with it?
2011: More importantly, the definition of science disqualified ID - ID by definition is not falsifiable. ID doesn't make positive predictions. Evolution routinely makes lots of predictions which are regularly proven to be true. I'm really kind of tired of even talking to creationists about this because unfortunately creationism is now part of their religious dogma and as such is true no matter ...more

I'm really kind of tired of even talking to creationists about this because unfortunately creationism is now part of their religious dogma and as such is true no matter what anyone says or how many facts are shown. Most creationists will say as much.less
joannebb: Did you read The Greatest Show on Earth? Based on your response I doubt it. I did and it was wonderful. As a Christian I was glad he refrained from his usual rants about Christian faith in the book. He made it very clear right from the beginning that was not the theme of this book. If you felt there was some "creationist bashing" - please cite it.
Actually, DP, the idea that we are the center of the universe came from early Christians - it was the astronomers who said that wasn't true but religious dogma persisted and unfortunately those some of those scientists were persecuted . . . everything old is new again I guess.
Hitler wasn't a Catholic - he was born one but didn't receive the sacraments or attend Mass after he was a child and to anyone who is or was a Catholic, that means he wasn't one. He then became or probably more accurately identified as a Protestant.
HO: I'm trying to figure out how Chicago is insulting Christians? By suggesting that he thinks football is a violent sport? It may or may not be (I happen to think its probably a little more violent than it needs to be but still love my Detroit Lions!) . . . but you know what? It's his opinion - nothing about it is insulting to Christianity and your suggestion that it is, is really the insulting t...more

believer: How do you know that group misinterpreted scripture? Because the boy died? Lots of kids died in the Bible and God ordered many of them killed. I'm not saying their interpretation is right (because I believe its 100% wrong) but their misinterpretations don't seem to be any worse than yours (and I'm sure mine in some instances).
Actually, we don't really need more prisons. Most of the things people are sent to prison for could be handled in a completely different way that doesn't penalize that person or overburden the tax payers. These three strike drug laws are silly and many of the white collar crooks would serve us better by dedicating those years of their lives to charitable works (instead of 25 years of jail - 25 yea...more

DP: So are privatized prisons - "prisons for profit" are a bad idea. Most countries don't send people to jail for years and years for drug offenses - the US does. Why? Profit motive is big one. Plus, politicians on both sides of the isle like to be "tough on crime." The repubs want to send all of those hardened drug offenders to prison for years and the dems want to send all those white collar cri...more

Plus, politicians on both sides of the isle like to be "tough on crime." The repubs want to send all of those hardened drug offenders to prison for years and the dems want to send all those white collar criminals to jail for a long time. The British magazine, The Economist, had a wonderful article about this exact subject this past summer.less
