Lillian! THANK YOU FOR THIS STORY! Your stories are consistently awesome and interesting to me! Consistently my favorite content at the Christian Post. I wish there was a link to just read Lillian Kwon stories or an RSS or something.

I agree with this guy. Maybe not as confidently as him, but I agree that personality driven church is not actually very biblical, probably not what Jesus wanted, and probably not helpful to the Church's mission - we are a body, with all members having important parts and roles - we NEED to start acting like it, so we can function better!

I agree, if the PCUSA is doing things that are wrong, and raising Christians that are misguided and unbiblical, then it's GREAT for people to leave them (I don't know anything really about the PCUSA).

I feel that many so-called "Christians" give the rest of us a bad reputation - that many very liberal denominations trick people into thinking they're Christians when they have no belief in scripture or Jesus. So I pray and beg God to diminish those denominations, so as not to lead tons of people astray and confuse Christianity for outsiders.

This article from the NYT is exceedingly troubling, yet not. The non-Christian culture is becoming less biblical (this is to be expected, like Romans 1), and this makes that clear. I think, in a way, it's good, because now there will be a clearer difference between Christians and the culture.

We need not condemn them, but rather show them that God's way works better. Seriously, evolutionary psychology is ridiculous!

I don't understand why it's such a priority that we influence laws in our country?

Non-Christians chaffe when we try to impose righteousness on them. Rather, we need to love them, model right living and full life for them, and get them saved.

In my humble opinion, making Christian laws for non-Christians does not please God, nor does it win people to Himself, rather it alienates them and makes them hate us (and therefore Him).

    Well said Dave,

Love God and Love your Neighbor! I wonder if they asked that one in the survey?

I fear that the survey misses the point - we DON'T want to reinforce in peoples' minds that it's about identifying a list and not sinning. This is the wrong idea!

Sin is about your heart, which they obviously don't understand (do we?) since they don't think lust is a sin.

The worst part: their misunderstanding is our fault. We haven't communicated it clearly - by our condemnation, actions, and words we've made them think they have to "not sin" to "get in".

    AWESOME!

I think it's SO GREAT that the environment guys are NICE TO THE DISSENTERS! They're being careful to respect those who disagree, soooooooooooooooo godly!

Personally, I don't think the environment is a big deal or a priority - even if the globe is warming, but I really appreciate that they're able to disagree respectfully.

Seriously though, even if the globe is warming, why is this a major concern? Aren't the poor more important? Isn't, like, slavery, and poverty, orphans, widows, loving people, much, much more important. The warming of the planet seems to have very little effect on us. And what can we do about it, really? We don't even know what's causing it for sure! It seems to me like somewhat of a wild goose chase.

  • Missional Churches Redefining Original Definition

    Dear Jennifer,

I feel that the title to this article is unfair. What proof do you have that "missional" churches, in general, have "deviated from original calling"?

The article title gives the term "missional" a bad name (to those who won't research it more), but the article content doesn't prove what you've stated. How can you lump all missional churches together and say that? It's too broad of a category, there's no list of all missional churches that you can point-to and verify your statement.

It's as if you said "small group churches have deviated from the original purpose of small groups." Which is impossible to prove.

Jenny, my beloved sister, the thing that bothers me about this is that Christ's Bride, The Church, (myself included) has been doing a poor job of loving people and acting like Jesus to outsiders. The "missional" idea is an attempt to fix that. When you defame the "missional" word, you make it harder for that movement to succeed - and you make it easy for those stuck in our old ways to resist the change that we need to make.

But thanks for your last paragraph. Could you write another article talking more about missional or cite a specific church that's failing? Maybe one that's succeeding?

“As a matter of public policy, the best way to honor God’s intention for marriage and human sexuality is to keep monogamous, heterosexual marriage privileged in law,”

I disagree. As it clearly states in 1 Cor 5:12 "What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?"

By trying to enforce biblical morals on the sinful culture, we're not winning anyone. Rather we're giving them a stumbling block - as the pharisees did - making them think that Christianity is about works and my own righteousness, rather than being transformed by God's grace.

Why are we fighting these battles!!!??? Seriously, let's focus on loving people and helping the poor, then homosexuals will get saved and repent! But legislating morality IS NOT GOING TO WORK!

    LOVE, jessse

A.S. - AMEN! I hope that we can soon throw-off more of our unbiblical ideas about what the Church is!

I wonder if all this focus on buildings and impersonal programs has enabled us to become inauthentic, hypocritical, avoiding difficult topics and explanations of our faith, and left us without a convenient forum for practicing love toward each other - and many other things, perhaps.

And, perhaps, allowed people to think they are Christians who really are not (thus giving the rest a bad name)

1man - why can't you be a Christian and vote for Obama?

    seriously torus?

Dude, we have a drought in Atlanta, and the governor called for everyone to pray that God would bring rain. Two days later we had a full week of rain. God often answers prayer. Look back in history and you'll see other times when a leader called the people to pray, and God answers. Have you even tried it?

God answers my prayers all the time. Try praying to find your keys next time you lose them, or praying for peace between you and a co-worker, or praying that you get articles for your next deadline.

Obviously, from your comment, you probably don't believe in God/prayer. But, seriously, try it next time, I think you'll be surprised.

    WAIT!! PLEASE!

PLEASE LISTEN!! THIS IS A MIS-UNDERSTANDING!!

Beam, you misunderstand Craven. Craven is simply proclaiming the scripture: 1 Cor. 5:12 "What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?"

ALL of our efforts to legislate morality on non-Christians are un-biblical and pharisee-like. Craven is simply saying we must stop trying to make non-Christians behave like Christians, because: 1) it's not working 2) it's making them resistant to the gospel - hence keeping them from getting saved!!

For God's sake, and non-Christians' sake! Please! keep witnessing and loving non-Christians, but stop "standing up" for un-biblical ways of engaging non-Christians.

PLEASE!! PLEASE!! I beg you brothers!
