Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
Comments are limiting here. I could write all day...
More reasons we left religion is the "need" for expansive (expensive) church complexes when that same money could be spent to actually help people help themselves. A church is being used what - 8% of a week? The rest of the time it often sits idle sucking up kilowatts of power to heat or cool it. Put the building to work ALL week long.
Church is to me what the Democrats have aspired to be for so long. The community anchor. Help kids with tutoring programs. No religion added. Help folks fix their homes. No religion please. Help folks help themselves like Habitat for Humanity. Help people with their homes, their cars, and their lives. Help young mothers. Help pregnant teens and their beaus get a start in life's right direction. Help them make careful choices that prevent future pregnancies.
I think religion has lost it's way in modern America. We've got dishonest leadership in our gov't. No word from the Christians. We've got our armies killing thousands of innocent people in the crossfire of war but the Christians are most commonly arguing of stem cells and abortion. No word on the rampent consumerism/affluenza we suffer from.
Christianity needs to be more pragmatic - more practical - and less about well worn Bible lessons that seem like a hokey TV rerun from our childhoods.
Religion is crumbling b/c of the public perception that religion is crumbling. The morals and manners of the average Sunday morning goer is not who people aspire to be. We once were regular participants in religion but slowly we realized we weren't commited to religion.
Too many of the wrong people call themselves Christians. Too many otherwise good people make excuses for these low-quality people who call themselves Christians. I won't subject my children to these people. My children are not sinners. They aren't going to someplace called hell. There is not a God that could help them but won't. They won't be put into the care of inappropriate adults who call themselves Christian but who are dishonest, hateful, or at worst molesters.
Sory folks - the bad Christians give you good folks a bad name. Too many good folks making excuses for the bad.
Too many good people really blasting homosexuality while conveniently overlooking the dangers of a majority of Americna families being broken by divorce and the effects that has on these family's children. That's the true danger to America - not gays or lesbians.

No the schools lack the backbone (and the parents' support) for true discipline. If they did then the schools would be free of sexuality, overt consumerism, bullies and language that would make a sailor blush. No, I don't want to raise my child to be a good person only to have that torn down by the school's "culture".
Taking religion out of it - schools would be better places if they could afford the best and brightest faculty (you know folks who would otherwise be able to be engineers, doctors, scientists - could go on to be well paid for being teachers). The current faculty is generally good but we could do better. for one I meet alot of faculty with a very loose understanding of technology.
Next would be one school in each county where the bullies could be sent for a little more intensive form of "training". Those who could not be kind people could have daily boot camp routines mixed with academic instruction.
Lastly more teachers per children so an atmosphere of learning would be fostered. I have a kid too embarrased to raise his hand and ask for help b/c some of the boys make fun of him for caring about school work.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
