This is a bad piece of law for many reasons. It would prohibit any mention of the evils of slavery (instruction which reflects adversely on the white race); war in the former Yugoslavia (instruction reflects adversely on Orthodox Christians, Muslims and/or Catholics) or any other blemish on the history of man.
If we can't discuss our mistakes we'd better get in line to repeat them.

It took me 5 minutes to read the statements attributed to Dr. Corbett. Hardly proof of a significant effort to espouse any particular view. I also see in the complaint no evidence that the parents attempted to speak with the teacher or the school board to understand the context or resolve the matter.

Perhaps more importantly, schools are places where the world views of 16 year olds are challenged. For some this is an angst filled experience.

Schools are learning centers where people learning to be adults are provided the opportunity to confront alternative views and defend their beliefs. Some will leave these experiences strengthened, others changed. True Faith is a knowing choice not an unchallenged belief.

Despite the somewhat alarming sentences attributed to Dr. Corbett in the complaint, teachers need our support in helping young people develop the capacity to think critically. Until I see more proof, I believe this is what Dr. Corbett was endeavoring to do.

80% of Americans identify as Christians. That means that American Christians spent 40 Billion dollars on gifts between and among ourselves this Christmas season.
The needs of the poor worldwide could not be more plain.
What does this mean about our actual persuit of Christ's message?
Do we spend too much energy worrying about the behavior of others and insufficiient effort conforming our own actions to Christ's message?
