Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
There is a reason so many people tell so many white lies. It's because they don't want to hurt someone else's feelings. While noble at times in cases of heaven or hell it could be outrightly damning. It is not good to sugarcoat the truth. Sometimes the truth can be a hard pill to swallow. I refuse to believe that God had Jesus go through what he did so we could simply have another option to choose from as far as our eternal life was concerned. I can just see the conversation between God and Jesus now. God: "Hey Jesus, I don't think people have enough ways to get in here what do you think of being spat on, nearly beaten to death, and then hung on a cross? Just you know, add to the smorgasboard." Jesus: " Wow, that sounds great you really do have amazing ideas." I'm sorry, but I don't see it. If you think about it, heaven is GOD'S HOUSE. We would never let someone stay in our house for five minutes if they refused to follow our house rules. Why should God do any differently just so someone doesn't get their feelings hurt. I wouldn't let someone stay in my house forever after they spent their whole life bad mouthing me or my family. I don't care how much money they gave away. That would be stupid. If God said the only way to get into heaven was to believe in the sacrifice He was willing to make for us, then that's what I'll do. God doesn't make it a habit to lie. That's our job.

Evolution is nothing more than the physical change of a species over time. God gets compared to a potter frequently so I'll use this. Evolution is like a lump of clay on a potter's wheel. Over time the potter works the clay and it takes different forms. With love and care the potter morphs this lump of unattractive clay into a beautiful pot. It can be said that God did the same for all things in this universe. Believing in evolution isn't wrong. I'm sure it explains how things came into being. What's wrong is saying that God was in no way responsible for it. Science can only explain the physical, and that is all evolution is, an explanation of the physical changes over time.

All science can do is explain how things physically happened. Even if the Big Bang happened that doesn't mean that God didn't make it happen. What if that were God's chosen method of creation? So what? What's important is whether you believe God was responsible for it. I believe that God created the heavens and the earth. I also have a degree in science. The more you can learn about how the world works, and all its detail, there is no way you could believe that there was no creator. That's why the earth needs as much tending to as it does. The writer of Genesis did not have the same level of knowledge about science or the technology that we do now. Saying that it took millions of years would have made no sense to the Isrealites that were the first to hear about creation. That's why the story was written in terms of days. That unit of time made sense, and to God 6 million years would be the equivalent to six days. The reality is it depends on faith, but science can not disprove what is true, God exists, no matter how many scientists want to think otherwise.

Maher's whole way of life is to make people he doesn't agree with seem stupid. He doesn't have all the answers. He seems to believe that believing in anything is a waste of time and energy. I have said it before to someone who thought they didn't have to believe there was a God to get into heaven, "I guess there's always finding out the hard way." I would love to see what God would say to Maher when he is standing in front of Him. His "comedy" isn't going to get him out of that boat. It is unfortunate though that he couldn't find someone who could truly testify for him.Christianity isn't about religion it's about a relationship with Christ. It's too bad that that has been lost at some point. I hope that other Christians including myself can help spread that message a little more lovingly.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
