throughitall,
I think you have the terms mixed up. I believe "socially liberal" indicates someone who supports homosexuality and such. Culturally liberal is more likely a reference to the culture of the church like rock music rather than hymns.

Isn't the province of Nigeria the biggest in the communion?

St. John,
They may be small in the U.S. but they have the support of much of the rest of the Anglican Communion don't they? The global south Anglicans outnumber other provinces and they're fully backing, actually they're the ones who encouraged this break.
So for the the worldwide Anglican Communion, this doesn't seem insignificant.

chicago24,
Just curious, can I ask why you go to church? Do you believe God created the world and just left it alone afterward?

Intellectual debates are welcomed, but I don't think any of us welcome personal attacks or insults thrown at another's faith.

floppydog,
I listened to the sermon on the website and the pastor mentioned that LDS followers in America alone gave over 13 million dollars per day or 4.9 billion dollars back in 1997. And that was the most recent dollar figure he could find (from TIME magazine) because Mormons don't choose to release their financial statements even to their members. We can only assume that that number has grown, he said.

Mike,
The concern is mainly with the average churches in America. The average churches are less than 100 people. The people questionably living in luxury only make up a fraction of the pastors out there. Most pastors have little pay but still serve God and their congregation with humility and love.

I don't think this site is promoting this group of Obama supporters. I believe it's pointing out the irony of this Christian group promoting Obama as "pro-life" as it mentions the opposing side.

Thank you Pastor Rick. Those words were really edifying and convicted me as a worker in God's Kingdom.

BobC,
I appreciate the suggestion that Christians should try and consider that atheists are right. But I'd also like to suggest you look more into who God is. The God that you say is "nothing more than an invisible man who lives in the clouds" is not the God that Christians believe. And when I look at reality today, I actually think God is more needed than ever. The world hasn't become like this because of God, but because the world has forgotten God.
I'm sure Rev. Hanson will still base the sexuality statement on Scripture. He just seems to be making an effort to reach out to the church and get the members to agree on a biblically sound statement.

Collins had this to say in his article:
"There is no program that can, or ever will be, designed that can guarantee taking somebody from stadium invitation to church the next Sunday and eventually to maturity in Christ. Nevertheless, the process of discipleship employed by organizations like Billy and Franklin Graham, Luis Palau, and Greg Laurie seek to follow the progress of inquirers.
"Rather than attempting to measure the success rate of "inquirers" from mass evangelism campaigns, the critics might get more measurable responses if they simply surveyed mature believers who are active in the church. Ask them how they came to know Christ.
"Simply put this question to people in the pews on Sunday. How many of you heard the gospel and responded to an invitation at a public outreach? My guess is that the response will be much higher than the 1 to 2 percent that critics of large-scale evangelism always put forward."

I agree that sexual abuse by clergy is a serious matter. But I don't believe we're in any place to judge others. And I do believe the SBC is trying to assess the situation and enforce some changes to prevent further abuse. Of course, more can be done, but this is a start.

Holsinger did say at his hearing that he would resign if he were asked to put politics over science. He said, If I were faced with a situation that I felt I could not in good conscience do, I think have a clear response to that. I would resign."

One group of Christians says this generation is drifting farther and farther away from God and another group says they're more open and more willing to commit to the truth and gospel of Jesus Christ. Although some may criticize them as only a spiritual bunch without concrete faith foundations, I see a generation with a genuine heart and a lot of it.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
