  • Outreach 100: Largest and Fastest-Growing Churches in America

A.S. Matthew, are you implying that larger churches are not teaching or adhering to the tenets of the Word of God and are just big business just because they are considered "mega"? We cannot control where people decide to worship. For example, if a church begins with a small membership of 75, and over the years grows (because of the biblical teachings and worship experiences, etc.) to a membership of 3,000. Does that church now become a church that is big business and not a true church of God?

I agree there are some large churches that are not concerned about the people but the people's money, however, can we rightly judge that all mega churches are that way? No. I caught your tone when you mentioned pastors and private jets. One reason people choose churches is based on their comfort level or location, and we choose pastors based on their personality and how the Word is received by their preaching.

Those people who are looking for the truth of God's word might find it in the same church and thereby join that congregation. Then that small membership grows with those looking for the Truth and feel they have found it in that smaller church (especially when they begin evangelize and witness). Then it becomes a large or mega church. Then what?

I kinda got off the main subject with my last post. Pastor Hagee has been saying things about the Catholic Church for years. I believe that if this was not an election year, he would not have given his PR apology when confronted. He will be back at it after the election. Watch and see. He has no affection to the Catholic Church - none. C'mon he says off things about America and that the Lord Jesus Christ did not come to be the Messiah. What makes us think that the Catholic Church is exempt?

    EvanCal,

I don't know a lot about the Catholic Faith, but your question "Is asking your friend on earth for their prayers creating an idol .." seems somewhat silly. Of course it is not creating an idol - according to scripture it is two people touching and agreeing. Look at Matthew 18:19 -
"Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." The key phrase is "on earth" - Mary is not on earth.

"Asking Mary for her prayers is no different than asking our friends on earth for prayers." How can a dead person pray for anyone? Mary is not here - she is deceased. She cannot pray for anyone. She can do nothing. Note Psalm 115:17 - "The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence." If she cannot praise the Lord, why do we think she can pray for anyone?

Your arguments are rather simple and juvenile. Your job is no more a hinderance than your having to do housework stops you from prayer - which should be without ceasing) or praise - which should continually be in your mouth. Can't praise when you are on the phone or typing on this blog, for that matter. Remember we have to work so how can that be a hinderance to the Lord?

It appears in recent days that the Catholic Church is making some outrageous claims, thus, justifying the notion that the Catholic Church is not Christian. For example, this week alone two articles came out saying (1) God had a "contribution" in mankind's evolution and that man's evolution was natural (http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/0802496.htm), and just today (2) Christians can beleive in aliens. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080513/ap_on_re_eu/vatican_aliens) It went further to state that the big bang theory is a "reasonable" explanation for the "creation" of the universe, but goes on to say that God created the universe. Look it up. The story came out today.

It is these claims that cause many to call the Catholic Church out as being "off" with its practices and theology. Since I am a novice of the Catholic ways, I know stuff like that is absolutely incorrect. You asked for scripture - now I ask you for scripture to justify these claims.

Jerry2, for the sake of intelligent conversation, who is the "ancient superstitious person who had a wild imagination'? If you provide credible resources, maybe we can dialogue further.

Since your first statement was deleted, I am assuming due to inappropriate content (maybe profanity, or what ever), but your second comment leads me to believe that you are not a Christian. Which brings me to ask, if you are not a Christian why are you responding on a Christian site? It would seem logical if you do not ascribe to the beliefs you would not frequent the site. I am not a Muslim, so I would not frequent any Muslim sites or respond to any blogs there in. Just an opening for conversation not to debate or argue.

Not to discount Rev. Graham's answer, but it does not fully answer the original question. According the scripture, the "I will" declarations of Satan in Isa. 14 were a result of "iniquity" that was found in his heart according to Eze. 28:14-16. Originally Satan was Lucifer, the anointed cherib, not an archangel, like so many have thought. God found iniquity in him and cast him out of heaven. Thus, he became Satan, or the Devil. Be careful when you say God created Satan. God did not. Lucifer became Satan, just as innocent man became a sinner after his fall from Grace. From the iniquity, pride set in, and so on and so forth. So to answer the last part of the original question - yes it is true because iniquity was found in him.
