Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)

"There is a great difference between religion and christianity. Religion is man's way of earning God's approval or salvation and christianity is God's way to bring salvation to mankind."
Another example of "in crowd" nonsense.....

"Say, you mention that Christians did the persecuting of Jewish people and you also reference cruelty against African and Native Americans. First, you need to consider what your personal understanding of what a Christian really is. Rome persecuted the Jews, not real Christians. Yes, Rome is one and the same as ROman Catholic "Church".
Now, there's a quote from a really sensible and informed person. Good God Almighty! It's thinking like this that we are up against. Why bother?

"It is you and MIke who don't get me. I want to see you guys in heaven."
If a person with as critical a spirit as yours can get there, I'm sure Mike (a gay guy) and I (a straight guy) can get there, too. The entrance exam CAN'T be that tough if you snipers are getting in one day!

"Mike is welcome to deny that the Bible says homosexual sex is wrong and just go on with the life he has. It will not deter the consequences."
It the opinion of you and your angular pastor, DP.....

"Mike is welcome to deny that the Bible says homosexual sex is wrong and just go on with the life he has. It will not deter the consequences."
Good God, DP! It's arrogance like this that sends people flocking away from your type of "Christian."

pvl wrote: "one world religion", hasn't that always been the goal of Christians?"
Precisely, pvl. Some types of "Christians" really have no problem with One World Religion - as long as it is THEIR religion.

No, I mean humans without loving human hearts - as so many seem to be on this site.

My point (from the last post) is: I'm sure sex is an important part of Mike's life. But I think you, DP, think it defines Mike. Mike is so much more than that. But you may never know that.

Also, DP to Mike: "Your life is about burying all the bad things instead of facing them and dealing with them. I will not live the life of denial you do."
You really don't "get" Mike at all, do you?

"I fairly well versed on it as one of my children has anti-social disorder."
I'm not trying to be smart, but I think I would have an anti-social disorder if I had been raised by so narrow a parent. It's not really fair to bring our children into this discussion, but my wife and I feel so blessed that all our offspring are such well-adjusted, contributing and grateful citizens.

"I'm OK...you're OK... just isn't in the Bible."
With all the truth in the Bible, your quote above certainly points out at least one place where the Bible is deficient.

"....such as Jay Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice, who are resorting to scare tactics to try to defeat the stimulus bill."
You are correct about this, I believe.

doug, I see what you mean. Sorry...
Gee, commenting on the ACTUAL article!?! I thought that after about the first 10 comments we were not allowed to go back to the original article. It's funny how far OFF the title (subject) these posts get sometime. I should have recognized what you were doing.

David: "It also explains the waning political influence of the religious right. Perkins, Dobson, Wildmon et al are fighting for their very existence with angry and deliberately disingenuous rhetoric. The new trend is self-victimization, framing everything as a (fatuous) struggle for religious freedom. This is augmented by the battle of semantics. It insults the collective intelligence, for example, to refer to advocates of reproductive choice as "pro abortion."
David, you speak the truth here. But you will not be heard by those whose ears are closed. Thank you for bothering to try to enlightening these people. I admire your energy (and your syntax).

Forgiven, you are the very one who needs to embrace the distributive Christ. You've overreacted to the retributive one. The consequences of sin were not intended to poison your mind, after all.

And I repost:
"Maybe we should allow the Muslims take over America - that way there will no longer be a same sex marriage debate - they wont allow it!"
This remark by Sawnay shows us that religious bigotry knows no religion: Muslim, Christian, whatever. I almost think Saw would prefer the US go for Islam rather than let certain people who love one another get married. This, of course, is very, very deep-seated bigotry.
Also, not be be sassy, but this headline makes me want to say: Drip, drip, drip, drip..... You anti-gay marriage folks are losing this battle, little by little. Of course, that's how the civil rights movement made progress, also - and eventually won the day. Thank God for the drip, drip, drips, I say.

But you already knew that I don't believe everything in the Bible, anyway. Deep down, I bet you don't believe it all - or operate as if you fully do - either.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
