Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)

Anyone who would have embraced Prejean is not wise. Miss USA is a trashy version of Miss America, which is questionable itself. The gospel is not about promoting media stars and making social icons. We are too quick to lift someone up based on one thing that they did and not testing their character. The result ends up being spiritual abuse of the person involved and of others are given that person as a role model. Everybody today wants an bandwagon to jump on or a hero to follow. Jump on the Jesus bandwagon and follow Christ. "and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace"

Just having a harvest party or "alternative" event is a waste of time. At least when the Catholics ran across pagan celebrations they made a true Christ-focused alternative like Christmas. I know a church that does a road to heaven and hell. People are tempted down the road to hell and find out that were tricked and it leads to death and fear. Then they are told they have a second chance and can find the real treats on the road to heaven. At the end they are asked which path they are on in real life and are basically given the gospel and an opporunity for prayer to receive Christ. Each person is given a bag with candy, a tract, and a church flyer. You would be surprised at the response. If someone is not interested, they are still invited to continue to fellowship. Where sin abounds grace abounds. In most places, Halloween is just a secular holiday, but having lived in the Bay area in a hub of Wicca and Satanism, Halloween can be much more than that, but why waste such a great opportunity to share the gospel.

Gibbons... agreed. If someone wants to put commentary, paranthetical statements, or explanations..fine, we then know it is their opinion or interpretation, but keep the text itself accurate..

why is the NAE even making a statement on this issue?

StreetReach... this has nothing to do with being charismatic, you watch too much television... and you deceive yourself if you think the problems of ego and "doing what's right in your own eyes" are unique to charismatic churches.

well, at least a 5000 member church geared toward younger people will use the s (in) word and talk about its consequences

While I agree that the things you stated are extremely important, in the countries they are talking about babies do literally starve to death while mothers can do absolutely nothing about it. Even if you disagree with their path to address the issue, to look the other way would be equivalent to baby killing. "To whom much is given, much is expected."

I didn't know this was a "movement". I always thought this was simply the bible. Come in the four-walls to learn and be edified, then quickly get out and "be a doer of the Word" in every area of your life!

Skewed study if it was done in 2005 and 2006. If the basis is simply having to live with someone else (as opposed to living in your car or on the street). My kids were "homeless" for over 3 months after Katrina. I'm sure the numbers in Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia were all significantly skewed.

a similar case in Georgia occurred some years back... the State Attorney General of Georgia ruled in favor of the Christian organization. The key is "voting members".. anyone could particpate in orgaization activities but only those individuals who adhere to the faith statement of the organization could vote for leadership.
Given the timing, I suspect the financing came as of a new business plan. It would take some time to rebuild the site after the financing came through.

believer, to bolster your points. I would look at it this way.
I am naturally gifted in math. Does that mean that people who aren't would never use math? Of course not, a person would be dysfunctional if they didn't do something when necessary simply because they did not have the gift. On the other hand, I have a math-oriented career. I use my gift for the betterment of all.
Gifts also are not based on what you like either. I do not really like to lead. However, no matter how much I try to stay out of things, I am constantly called in to take charge of situations and get things going. I clearly have a leadership gift. I can choose to submit when called upon or I can selfishly sit back and watch things fall apart and in the end everyone including me is frustrated.
Gifts are for the body of Christ, not to make us "happy" and comfortable.

The NT talks about giving not tithing. Tithes could only be brought to the temple (not even a synagogue), you had to be jewish, and own land.
However, NT giving seems to indicate giving really beyond 10%, give sacrificially and joyfully. If someone tithes out of religous duty and not cheerfully and in faith, it is useless anyway. Really everything should be given toward the spreading of the gospel whether it is money or the things purchased.

Sawnay~Rah: You need the love of God in your heart. It was not black people who came up with separate but equal. I see many black people in churches with white pastors, yet I see very very few white people in churches with black pastors. Much of the contribution of black people is left out of the telling of history. Some of the stories are told but that fact that someone is black is left out. You may not think that matters but you are not raising black children who are raised shown everything as white. Blond haired-blue eyed Jesus, white skinned Ruth. Many people do not even know that St Augustine was African. People hear about the Great Awakenings but how much do they hear about William Seymour and the fact that the church could have led the repentance of America at the beginning of this century. Instead we ended up with the white Assemblies of God and black COGIC and the racist mess that follows and plagues this country still today

viking: you are probably correct about Columbus in that more people believed the earth was round. However, it was in his biblical understanding that prodded him to make the journey. Science and God are not separate. God's character is decency and order. God created the earth. science and math are used to explain it. I took at graduate level Math analysis class where we had to prove the foundations of mathematics, the number line, infinity etc. When we got down to the most basic thing, someone asked the atheist professor, well how do we prove that, the response "Well, we have to take it by faith" I still hold to the stand that it is hypocritical to condemn Columbus day and exalt Darwin Day. Darwin day is nothing more than an effort by atheists to criticize Christians. It is rediculous.

Pure and undefiled religion is taking care of widows and orphans. We would rather take care of big buildings and high tech equipment.

Darwin was a racist. The same people who want to remove Columbus day stating that he was a racist ( Columbus went against the science of his day and used to Bible to determine that the world was round) want to make a Darwin Day. Hypocrital!

didymus: That's funny! What change from one species to another have we seen that will then reproduce? What chaos to order have we observed? Calling evolution a theory is a joke. There is no observation and no testing. Even the smallest components are just beginning to be tested now and no solid confirmation have yet to take place.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
