Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)

Here I am a Christian gay man who once believed and walked in the ex-gay myth. Do I believe people can be changed by the power of God YES for I have seen it. I have seen some get married and have kids but that is the exception and not the rule. And trust me I have seen hundreds if not thousands for I was a leader in the ex-gay movement for a number of years. Most men and women have to resign themselves to celibacy for their attraction have not diminished and it is not fair nor right to bring someone in on this ordeal. And if I recall correctly celibacy is a gift then why do people get this imposed on them making it harder. And why can't two people of the same sex love one another?
Do I believe that choices need to be made if one wants to be gay or ex-gay YES. But the reality is that scripture is ambiguous about the word homosexual (don't believe me go to the greek or Hebrew) for the term was put in by our translators.
This nation will not fall apart because I happen to like men and am in a committed relationship. I once heard Sen. Obama say a rather pointed question to a group of pastors, 'Can you tell me one marriage that has fallen apart due to two men or two women holding hands" and the room was silent.
Most here have not really looked at or addressed the issue at hand. They take verbatim what their pastor says or read scripture that has been translated lossely and wrongly. Don't get me wrong the message of Scripture is true for I do believe Jesus is the only way to the Father and we are all sinners in need of a savior. But gay men and lesbians are broken people like all of us in need of a savior but that does not mean that they can not love someone of the same sex. And please note I said love.
One day one day a move of God will hit the gay and lesbian population that will shock and astound people for it will not come in the package they thought. but then God works in mysterious ways.
God help us if we get someone like Huckabee in the office. Once again the evangelical community has misstepped it's understanding of what the best person in office is all about. Just because one has been a pastor or holds closer to your beliefs does not make him or her the best candidate. This reminds me of the issue in Iraq and much of the Islamic world that pits Sunni against Shia.
We must look at the big picture and it is not all just about America or if this person holds closer to my religious beliefs. What scares me is that this mindset has huge repurcussions across the globe. The church when it held positions of leadership in government has done horrible catastrophic things in the name of Jesus. When will we wake up in looking at the fuller picture that in voting for the president it is someone who will make a difference in the whole world not just hold on to my own beleifs.

As a Christian gay man I applaud the younger generation for not following in the misguided footsteps of their elders. These misguided footsteps can also be seen in equal rights for blacks, women's rights as well as interracial marriage. All of these issues were at one time deemed the top issue the church should stand up against for they would be the demise of the family if they were to happen. In the same way gay men and lesbians are scapegoated as the prodigals because they are unrepentant sinners.
Broken people yes and in need of a savior yes like all of us but scripture in no ways condemns men or women from being in a loving same sex relationship. Now I know a lot of you will say that is not so look at Rom 1 or 1 Cor 6 or even Leviticus. But I doubt very seriously many of you have looked at the root meaning of many of the words used for homosexual. You will come to discover that homosexuality as we know it is not mentioned and many of the words are ambiguous in their meaning.Remember that it is a translation correct in the message not perfect in its translation. But this issue has become overrated due to fear and an unwillingness for many in the church to honestly look at or address this issue from a biblical, historical, sociological way. We're right your wrong for the bible tells me so and yet unable to live up to their own standards of what the bible tells them to be/do.
Hypocrisy is not easy to address in any of us. And something that is as entrenched in this false belief takes time and people to come out of hiding and be a voice for truth. This truth proclaims that who so ever shall believe in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Who so ever means man, woman, black. hispanic. asian, straight, gay and how dare anyone say that I as a gay man can not be a Christian, that is hypocrisy
Another question is why do many people look at people like myself in light of who I am in bed with or what I do with another sexually? This is not the case if one is straight for they are viewed as a man or a woman. One day and it will be sooner then we think being gay will not make any more difference than being black or a woman. The real issue at hand is how does the church how do you and I portray our faith, live our faith in such a way that this draws gay men and lesbians to Christ?
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
