Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
Pastors are correct to preach that all sin - sexual and otherwise - can be overcome in Christ. People who feel they are predispoed to homosexuality can seek the same healing as those who are predisposed to alcoholism and depression (see below). God is love. He wants to heal ALL issues.
1) Alcohol-Dependence Gene IdentifiedGABRG3 Has a Consistent Association With Alcohol Dependence From Washington U. School of Medicine,
Investigators at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Indiana University School of Medicine and other centers have identified a gene that appears to increase the risk of alcoholism. The study, published in the January 2004 issue of the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, is the first to demonstrate an association between this particular gene and alcohol dependence. The gene is related to a receptor that allows for the movement of Gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA) between nerve cells. GABA is the major inhibitory chemical in the central nervous system.
2) Depression's Genetic Link Sunday February 4, 2007
Scientists are closing in on a possible genetic component of depression. Genes in a particular region of chromosome 15 may be responsible, say U.S. researchers.
The research is being published in two separate papers in the February issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry and was led by scientists at Stanford University.

Bless those who labor in God's name
Garageguy, you wrote "there is no alcoholic gene."
Surely you understand that alcoholism, depression, even aggression can be genetic
(see notations below). Yet people can overcome these issues. GOD makes it possible to overcome all obstacles. He loves us - all of us.

GOD IS LOVE. He is waiting with open arms to embrace anyone struggling with sin, like a loving parent. At the cross He died for all of our sin, and He will help us all overcome sinful behavior every day. He promises in His word (1 Corinthians 10:13) that whenever we are tempted (with any sin), He will provide a way of escape. Each person must decide whether he/she wants take that escape or remain in sin.
TO Garageguy: There is an alcohol dependence gene (See notation below). If people with that gene can overcome predisposed behaviors, gay people can also.

Even IF homosexuality is inherent , that's no reason to continue in sin. What about people who have the alcoholic gene, violence gene, gambling gene, depression gene. They must make a daily effor to resist and overcome those predispositions. The same is true for those who feel they are born with same sex attraction. Sin is still sin. However, I feel that those born with dual sex organs are in a unique category. Their plight should not be used as an excuse for people who refuse to obey God.
All sexual sin comes from lust, and Jesus did experience how lust can tempt a human. The particular category of lust is not as important as the root. Therefore Jesus did not have to actually experience the urges of a homosexual any more than those of compulsive gambler, alcoholic, drug addict, video game addict etc. He just had to experience how these things often seem insurmountable to humans. He showed us at the cross that God is greater than sin, and that we can resist temptation. God promises in His word (1 Corinthians 10:13) that when tempted, He will provide us a way of escape. Each person must decide whether he/she wants take that escape or remain in sin.
Christians who love God are not celebrating the limiting of rights or limiting of love. They are pleased with rulings that uphold the Bible's definition of marriage and what God says about sexual relations. The reason why many Christians are focused on this issue is that is is a major area of deception that is causing many people to fall under the influence of satan. yes satan. he has been very successful at making people view as normal something that God decries.

Flagged as inappropriate. show The Bible says homosexuality is wrong. That settles it. We who believe God's word should continue to preach the TRUTH without wavering. But we should not show up at gay events with a megaphone like the group in Phili. The Bible says we should not cast our pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6). We should preach to those willing to listen. The others we should pray for and leave in God's hands. hide

Of course God loves EVERYONE. He loves us as we are - BUT he doesn't want us to stay in sin. God loves the sinner but hates sin. The Bible says ALL have sinned. But we don't have to CONTINUE sinning. It should be our daily goal to CHANGE wrong behavior and continually strive to be holy. See Romans12:2; 1Peter 1:15-16; 2 Corinthians 5:17

I have seen video of this girl and she seems to be putting on an act. She is likely a runaway that wants freedom from strict parents and is willing to slander them to get her freedom. The worst part is that she is using the Christians who are trying to help her. She may have accepted Christ, but she is not exhibitin His ways. I say send her home but have DFACS there monitor her to ensure her safety.
TO: idietolive, who posted » The reason I put a dash in G-d is just to show my reverence for His name. G-d is not His name but it refers to it and I do not want it to be desecrated by spelling it out and someone throw it away or show disrespect to it.

This action is unecessary. There is noting wrong with writing God's name. If there was we could not have the Bible. Be free in Jesus Christ.

There is such as thing as righteous judgement. It simply means that Christians are to judge -- or better yet MEASURE -- everything according to the Bible.
"But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one." 1 Corinthians 2:15

If they did not lead MJ to Christ, my question is WHY NOT???!!! From the published reports it seemed that he was receptive. That was the ideal opportunity. Christians must be more proactive in witnessessing. I am. I have lead strangers to Christ in the aisle of Walmart - I'm serious. I only pray now that MJ was so moved by the meeting with the Crouche's that he accepted Christ in his private moments. This should remind us all to step up and witness with boldness. It may be someone's last chance at salvation.

Mr. Colson's is correct that Christian beliefs are inconsistent with support of same sex marriage. This does not mean that Christians cannot and do not respect and love all people regardless of sinful sexual practices -- or any othr sin. One sin is not worse than the other. We all should strive to overcome sinful behavior -- not make excuses for staying in it. People that preach the truth from the Bible should not be denied their 1st Amendment rights.
I would not be surprised if abortion-promoters themselves arranged this killing in order to validate their claim that the prolife movement is extremist and dangerous. Pro-life orgs are already on the government's "watch" list. This gives them all the more reason.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
