  • The Year 'Old Europe' Died

about Europe refusing the constitution I need to set something straight. I am from the Netherlands, one of the nations that by referendum voted against the constitution. However, this article makes it seem that we voted against it because of the Christian slant in it. That was not the reason. May I remind the writer that most our European countries already have constitutions that come from our Christian background. The one in the Netherlands even has laws against profanity. The reason we voted against any European constitution was that we didn't want to give any more control over to Brussels. Most of us don't want to become the 'United States of Europe', and that was what was heard through the referendum to the dismay of the politicians who thought making some changes in the constitution would change our minds, but just to make sure it'll pass next time they'll skip the referendum and let only the politicians decide.

  • Secularism No Match for Islamic Fundamentalism

"With one set of eyes we can see Europe as a continent in spiritual crisis through neo paganism, the growing influence of Islam, the emptying of churches, secular intolerance, multi ethnic, religious and cultural ghettos, and a Christianity that is practically irrelevant to the vast majority of indifferent Europeans. The gospel has been marginalized. However with eyes of faith we can see expressions of hope that the tide is turning. Fervent prayer, creative new expressions of church, renewal in existing churches and immigrant believers from the two thirds world stirring us with their passion and faith. Surely the foundations are being laid for a fresh move of God that will see Jesus the King be honored, loved and obeyed on our continent again." Quoting Ian Nicholson.
I do think just about any article about Europe on this site has a very negative pessimistic perspective, but I do think there are many hopeful signs, and that's from someone who actually spent most of her life living there.
