    It is factually inaccurate to define MLK as an "evangelical Christian." His theology, though nurtured in a traditional Black Baptist church, came to be much more liberal and neo-orthodox. He would not be in sympathy with much of the evangelical movement's conservative social agenda. Indeed many of the Christian right's most prominent leaders were avid Southern segregationists, e.g. Jerry Falwell.
