  • Obama Could Win 40 Percent of Evangelical Vote, Says Expert

Factual error... the piece says "the public relations guru pointed out that one-third of white evangelicals had voted for former president Bill Clinton in his 1996 re-election bid during the 'height of [the] Monica Lewinsky mess.'"

Not so... the Lewinsky "mess" erupted in January, 1998, 15 months after Clinton's re-election.

His re-election was a combination of a weak GOP candidate (Bob Dole) and a backlash to the Republicans fumbling the ball on the government shutdown showdown in late 1995. He was also helped by the Oklahoma City bombing, which took the country's focus away from what brought the GOP to power in 1994 in the "Contract with America" and put public support behind their "leader."

Of course, we now have a weak GOP candidate, and the Republicans are fumbling the ball more and more, it seems, every day.
